Namjoon

For the next week Namjoon sat at his counter in the store and waited. He stared out the glass sliding doors, trying to recognize the unseemingly captivating face that belonged to Jin, the boy that could not escape his mind. Sadly, the only visitors were countless strangers and regular customers.

Namjoon's mood at work shifted day to day. After the visit, he was excited for work. Crazy, right? Namjoon would wake up an hour earlier than he did before, when the sun hadn't risen yet and his small apartment was engulfed in darkness.

He lived alone ever since he was 20, when he finally admitted to his parents that fitting their cookie-cutter image of a son would be too much and wanted to become a musician, a rapper even. They didn't support any part of it, called him a shame to their family, and kicked him out of the home he lived in all his years. So much for an accepting family. His mother and father never liked his ear piercings or rebellious hair colors. This was certainly expected. Namjoon used anything he had to find a new place to live, and here we was now.

When he was awake, Namjoon would shower and clean himself as best as he could. Spraying a decent amount of fragrance but not too much on a suffocating scale. Styling his newly dyed lilac hair to perfection after dressing in his uniform and then would head to work. All because he wanted to look presentable. Approachable.

Boyfriend material.

Throughout this week he tried to keep his mind off of Jin, but Namjoon couldn't help but feel as if his enthusiasm was slowly faltering. Jin's visit was surely a one-time thing, Namjoon would have thought. He wouldn't come back for this ugly guy, when he was so handsome himself. Then, everything in his mind rushed to a sudden halt. You could almost hear the screeching car tires.

Especially when Namjoon didn't even know if he was gay or not! Ah, he was an idiot for not thinking about that one. Jin could have had a girlfriend and was creeped out by the way Namjoon was making a-seemingly subtle-move on him.

He thought his life was over. But now that Namjoon thought about it, this past week had seemed like something straight out of a work of fiction. Today he was setting out specified brands and items for sale, cleaning the store, and working the front register. The kind owner had set out a list for him, adding a cute smiley face at the end of her note, for she had to run a few errands that would take a while to finish. So as Namjoon finished off his chores, he thought about how he resembled a cliché story character like instantly falling for a guy he had never met before or thinking about Jin all the time.

Sure, he was physically perfect but his personality left a big impression on Namjoon. Jin was just so cute and adorable. He was shy about speaking up over such an awkward topic, Namjoon thought as he swept the floors, a light smile growing on his face. His friends were so different compared to him too. They were more outgoing but all enjoyed each other's presence equally. If they could be as close as they are to Jin, Namjoon could have a chance too.

He could talk to Jin whenever he would want, hang out with him, do plain old stupid things, it wouldn't matter. They could give each other nicknames. Maybe Jin would call him Namjoonie?

Namjoon abandoned the broom for a rag to wipe down the windows. But what if Jin felt the same way as he did? They could become boyfriends. This fantasy gave Namjoon shivers of excitement as he cleaned the glass in circular motions. It could be a reality. If Namjoon could somehow find out Jin’s contact information or where he lived–

His eyes latched, through the window, onto a man in a long rose quartz colored coat walking briskly in the slightly chilly weather outside. He wore a pair of sunglasses as he made his way down the street. He had a sense of familiarity, and Namjoon began to question if it were actually Jin.

His heart raced, pumping harder than it ever had to emotionally bear, and he strained to get a better look at the man. He was still across the road, but was closer now. He was more noticeable and was surely making his way to the convenience store. The small store where Namjoon was currently shaking head-to-toe from some mixed, unknown feeling.

Shit.
