“We can’t just leave her here!” Therese said, trying hard not to cry. She leaned on the balcony’s rail, clawing her hair.

“Darling, trust me I hate the idea of leaving her here but we have to.” Alexander said, keeping his voice calm.

“But- but why is it so much of a must to you?!” Therese asked

“Because if it isn’t, and we brought her to the council, surely they will take Trisha and her life away.” Alex said

“Will you please remind me again why?” She asked

“It’s because The Council only allows us to have one child.” Alex answered

“And why do they take over our rights?” She asked

“Because they’re afraid that our children will do bad deeds to Earth.” He answered

“Well if they are afraid, then they never should have banished us here! And they should have never let both of us ever exist in the first place.” Therese said

Alexander sighed and sat next to her. He held both her hands and looked into her eyes.

“Therese… there is no time to regret the past, nor our existence, nor Trisha’s. The only thing we could do is to leave her remaining here on Earth.” Alex said

“But… c- can’t we just say that we adopted her?” Therese said, trying to hide the wall of tears in her eyes.

“But she has your eyes, my hair, your grin; she has a part of us both that are highly recognizable.” Alex said

Therese smiled at the thought of her child.

“And adopting another child wouldn’t mean the child wouldn’t have our menacing wit and your irresistible smile.” Alex continued

“Oh, Alex, flirting with me in this situation is not really helping that much.” Therese said

He grinned and said “What I simply mean is adopting a child still doesn’t mean the child is not ours. The genes maybe, is not ours, but still.”

“What’s your point in all of this?” She asked

“My point is, acting, or saying so, that she’s adopted, doesn’t make her any different from us.” He said

“But what are we going to do? We can’t just leave her here with anybody. If they find something… different, they’ll surely hurt her.” She said

“That is why, my lady, we are leaving her to people who know our “species”” Alex said

She raised her eyebrow at him for some time and gasped as realization struck her.

“No, Alexander Fairlord. I am not leaving her in that freak show.” She said

“Any other suggestions?” He asked

She thought for a while and squeezed her eyes.

“Okay, if we leave her there, will there ever be a satisfying chance we will get her back?” Therese asked

“When she finds out of her power, there will be.” He answered

“And if she doesn’t?” She asked

That will be impossible.” He said.
