Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away, there lived a queen who wasn't the nicest in the world. Everyone called her the Queen of Hearts. She was very cruel to her people. However, her daughter, Princess Jamie, was a different story. She was a kind soul and she just didn't understand why her mother was so mean. She believed that it's better to be loved than feared when the queen believed the opposite. Well, one day, Jamie was reading one of her favorite books, Beastly.
"Beautiful," she thought.
Then her mice friends, Lisa and Billy, run into the room, arguing over Lisa's watering can.
"Give it to me, Lisa," Billy said, tugging on one end of the watering can.
"No Billy! My flowers!" Lisa yelled, pulling on the other end.
Jamie sighed and stopped reading to resolve the situation.
"Not again. Guys, why can't y'all get along? Billy, give the watering can back to Lisa," Jamie replied.
"But I want to fill up my bucket," Billy responded.
Lisa started crying and Jamie gently lifted her in her hand.
"There there, Lisa," Jamie comforted.
"Thank you, Jamie. You're so kind," Lisa sniffled.
"She sure is," they heard a voice.
They turned toward it and saw Jim Hawkins. He's one of the servants that works for the queen.
"Yay! Jim is here!" Lisa cheered.
"Hey! How's it going, Jim?" Jamie greeted.
"Nothing much. I just wanted to make sure if everything was okay," Jim explained.
"Well, it's not for me. All I wanted was to fill my bucket with water, but my sister and her royal highness wouldn't let me," Billy complained.
"Did you ask nicely if you could borrow it?" Jamie asked.
"No, he did not!" Lisa pointed out.
"Gee. I didn't think of that. I'm really sorry, Lisa. Can you ever forgive me?" Billy apologized.
"Well, I guess so. Come on, let's go play," Lisa smiled.
"Where are we going?" Billy asked.
"To my garden," Lisa answered.
They ran out of the room laughing. Jamie and Jim were left alone.
"Kids," she teased then added, "So, is everything okay?"
"Yeah, especially now," he smiled.
Then the queen entered the room. She didn't like how Jamie was so nice to the servants, especially Jim.
"Jamie! Jim! What's going on here?" she asked.
"Nothing Mother," Jamie replied.
"That's what I thought. Now Jim, go mop the kitchen," the queen ordered.
"But I just--" Jim started.
"YOU JUST WHAT?!?" she snarled.
"Nothing. Sorry, your highness. See you later, Jamie," he bowed to them.
He left the room a little sad. Jamie liked Jim and she wished with all her heart that her mother treated him better.
