A twig cracked. A bunny perked his long, pointy ears up as his nose twitched uncontrollably. A fox was hiding in a bush, just behind the innocent bunny. It licked its chops quietly and approached the critter. Abruptly, the rabbit sensed danger and bolted out of the small clearing. The fox darted after him. Trees rushed by in blurs of motion, barely processing to the hunter or the hunted. Small creatures--owls nestled in their nooks, or squirrels preparing for winter--rose their heads to watch the fantastically fast chase. Just as the rabbit was nearing its zenith of speed, a rock appeared on the horizon, approaching too quickly to avoid. Leaning as far as he could, the bunny twisted his small, spry body and leapt over the obstacle. The lean, slender fox snaked around it elegantly. The chase continued, the fox now gaining ground on the exhausted rabbit. With three swift paces, the fox had its jaws just over his dinner.

Nature is run by a strict chain of command. The food chain, if you will, and we're at the top. Humans. A remarkable species. However, think about this: If a super-intelligent alien race came to earth, what would they look like? Little green men? No. They would have adapted to their planet, not ours, and would have completely different evolutionary traits. They would not have eyes to see, or hands to pick things up with. They would be like nothing on Earth.
It is this evolution that qualifies us at the top of our chain, and animals at the tops of theirs. They need the traits they have developed in order to survive.
Running Nature like this is harsh. Brotherly birds will kill each other for their mother's love. Geese charge at anything and attack them for simply entering their territory. Bears kill thousands of salmon that are simply trying to swim upstream. Humans kill millions upon millions of harmless animals each year, and for what? Clothes. Jewelry. Food.
What if one day, that salmon would slap that bear? What if the goose's intruders would turn to merciless invaders, or the runt bird kill his older brother?
What if, just once, the rabbit turned and bit the fox?
