"So where to?" Abigail asked as she bounded to her car.
"How about the park?" I offered as I climbed in, thinking about how great it felt outside.
"The park?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Well I mean it's nice out, we don't have to go."
"No, the park is fine," She gave a small smile.
"Cool," I grinned bad, I really do love the park.
"So," She started as we got out and looked at the park where there were a few parents with their kids, "what do you usually do?"
"I usually just kind of relax, people watch," I shrugged.
"Oh my god, swings!" She yelled as she grabbed my hand and ran over. I'm not gonna lie, my heart sped up a little bit, "Can I get a push?" She asked as she climbed on.
"Okay," I chuckled.
I laughed to myself as she laughed and was loud like a little kid.
"Swing with me!"
"No thanks," I held my hands up.
"Party pooper," She pouted.
"Sorry."
She gave one more swing before jumping out and I slowly made my way to her.
"That was fun, the park was definitely a good idea."
Over the next hour I spent my time following her around as she played on the slides and ran around goofing off. She eventually got tired and we sat at a picnic table to relax, which was much more my speed.
"So I have a question for you," She told.
"And I have an answer."
"Really?" She narrowed her eyes and I could feel my cheeks heat up, "Anyway, why did you get me last night?"
I raised my eyebrows.
"What do you mean?"
"Well I called five different friends last night including the one I went with. Either they didn't answer or wouldn't get me, then there's you, pretty much a complete stranger, you borrow your moms truck to get me a couple hours before the sun rises. Why?"
"Well," I felt awkward, like any time I was in a situation not filled with sarcasm, "you needed a ride and I didn't want you to hurt yourself," I couldn't really make eye contact while I spoke.
"Well thanks," She smiled big at me.
"Like I said, no problem."
I started to feel a little nervous.
"You wanna go get some frozen yogurt?" I asked standing up, "My treat."
"Sure?" She got up but seemed a little confused.
"Awesome," I smiled awkwardly.
I don't do serious. It makes me feel uncomfortable.
We made our way to a little frozen yogurt place downtown by the riverfront. I got a mixture of a few different flavors before loading it up with brownie and candy. We sat by the window so we could watch the water.
"Oh man this is good," She grinned while digging in.
"I'm with you there."
We sat in a comfortable silence for a while.
"So why do I never see you with anybody at school?" She asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Every time I see you you're kind of always usually alone. I see you talk to people all the time in the hall but never walk with them, and you always eat lunch alone."
