The next morning Hikaru was sitting at the kiction table eatting bacon and eggs that Mrs. Young made.
" What's the matter, Hikaru? " she asked, " You've barely eatting your food. "
" Nothing...Mom," Hikaru answered.
" Now I know my own daughter, " Mrs. Young said, " Normally you would have had those eggs gone by now. Tell me, what's bothering you. "
Hikaru sighed. She didn't like lieing to her, but she sure didn't want to discuss being adopted as well.
" Really, Mom, I'm fine, " she said, " I'm just not as hungry as I usually am. "
Mrs. Young looked at her, clearly not convinced, but she sighed, " Okay, I believe you, but if anything is wrong you can tell me. I am your mother after all. "
" Okay, Mom, " Hikaru choked out.
Hikaru tied her jacket arround her waist and slung her bag over her shoulder.
" Bye, Mom, " she said and went outside.
Bulla met her at the halfway mark to school like she did yesterday, but without her bike.
" How you doing, " Bulla asked
" Fine, " she lied.
Bulla stopped and turned to look at Hikaru with consern in her eyes.
" We may not have known each other long, Hikaru, " she said, " but I know when someone is in pain. Come on, what's bothering you? "
" I found out something last night, " she choked, barely able to hold back the tears, " after you left. I...I'm adopted. "
" Oh, " Bulla spread her hands and gathered Hikaru into a warm hug, " Let me guess. They thought you were to young to understand so they waited until now to break the news? "
Finally, Hikaru couldn't hold back the tears. They came flowing out hot and fast.
" Worse, " Hikaru cried, still hugging Bulla, " I found out on my own. They don't even know I found out. "
" Oh, " Bulla's wide eyes revealed her surprise, " They weren't planning to to them at all, were they? "
" Doesn't seem like it, " Hikaru sobbed, " I've been lied to by my family my whole life, Bulla, I'm not even sure I can trust them anymore! "
Bulla pulled her back and stared her in the eyes, " What happened to the girl I met yesterday? Where's the girl who could get run over with a bike and not shed a single tear? "
" That was a physical injury, " she said, wiping her eyes, " My mental strength isn't as great. "
Bulla dropped her arms and sighed, " You are strong, Hikaru, you just don't see it yet, " Bulla wiped a tear off of Hikaru's face, " Now cheer-up and lets get to school. "
Hikaru nodded, but her friends words didn't change the way she felt. Soon she arrived at school and took her seat in Algrabra. Trunks noticed her red eyes and wet face.
" Hey, " he whispered, " Are you okay? "
Hikaru didn't look up, " Yeah, I'm fine. "
Trunks left her alone after that. He knew if he pressed her, she would get mad and storm off.
Hikaru went to English class, but barely spoke to Bulla. Whenever the teacher would call on her, Hikaru would answer, but her voice was hollow and her I held no light. At lunch the cafeteria served hamburgers, but Hikaru didn't eat anything.
Finally, P. E. class arrived. Normally Hikaru would be excited for the friendly competition games they played, but she continued to mope. Her eyes, which were normally bright and dancing, were cold and hollow.
" All right class! " yelled Mrs. Genki, walking back and forth among the students, " Today we'll be playing a game that requires patience, fast thinking, team work, and a butt load of determination. "
The class watched as Mrs. Genki went into the equipment room.
Bulla walked over to Hikaru.
" Will you be on my team? " she asked.
" I'll be no good at it, " Hikaru protested.
" Sure you will! " Bulla smilled, " But I have to two conditions. "
Hikaru blinked at her, confused.
" Please get rid of that frown, " she whispered, " And give it your all. "
" But-"
" No buts, " Bulla said, her face firm, " I know your still upset from this morning, but it's all past. They may not be your real parents, but they loved you otherwise they wouldn't have raised you. If you keep on dwelling on this one problem, your life is going to pass you by and you'll miss all of it. "
Before Hikaru could speak, Bulla walked back to her place in the line.
Mrs. Genki came out of the equipment room pushing a crate full of random balls. She grabbed one of them and spun it on her finger.
" We'll be playing basketball today, " she said, " Is there anyone here who doesn't know how to play?"
The class stayed silent.
" Good, " she said, " First team to earn three points wins. "
A boy raised his hand.
" Yes? "
" What about the shots that come from the halfcoart line? " he asked.
" All shots will be one point. "
" Okay. "
Hikaru and Bulla were both put on the red team. They faced up against the blue team.
Mrs. Genki held the ball in the center of the coart, " Ready, set, play ball." She tossed the ball into the air.
A tall boy snatched the ball out of the air and started dribling toward the goal. Bulla reached him halfway there and stole the ball. She ran to the opposite goal and shot the ball in the hoop

" Hikaru! Get the ball! " Bulla yelled.
Hikaru ran to the black haired boy, stole the ball, and dribled toward the goal. She almost tripped over some guy's foot, but she swerved out of the way just in time. Hikaru made it to the goal and threw the ball. As it soared through the air Hikaru crossed her fingers.
The ball fell in the hoop.
" Yes! " Hikaru cheered, but the rest of the class stayed silent.
" Huh? " Insead of cheering, the class stared in shock at something behind her.
Hikaru turned arround and froze. There, on the polished gym floor, layed her jacket. Hikaru's was swaying behind her, completely exposed.
