Chapter Two
After weeks of study and investigating, I thought that I finally had the answer. Unfortunately, it was a stupid idea. Also, there was a very high probability that I would die almost immediately. But it was the only thing that had a possibility of working.
In order to get back to Heaven, I would need to go to Hell.
Now, before you laugh and say that that's impossible, that there's no way you could go to Hell and expect to get to Heaven, let me attempt to explain. Demons can go back to Heaven. Or rather, they can try. They are powerful creatures, and can do almost anything if their leader tells them to. Well, almost anything within their limited realm of power. However, they can not enter Heaven without another demon inside letting them in already. And in order for that first demon to get inside, they must escape the guard located at the entrance and destroy them. Angels can enter Hell successfully, however, although it is excruciatingly painful. As a child of both worlds, I should thus be able to enter both without too much trouble. Hopefully.
The way the demons attempt to get into Heaven is through a gate, or a magical passage, from the depths of Hell to the middle of Heaven. Of course, it is guarded constantly by an angel guard- one is always enough, for not many demons attempt the perilous journey. After all, none come back alive.
So, in order to get back to Heaven and find my father, I will need to enter Hell, go through the passage to the Demon Gate, and try to enter Heaven without being caught and killed. Not to mention that then I'd need to find my father in the whole massive expanse of Heaven. It was a nearly impossible task, but I was determined to do it. I had to, though I didn't really know why.
And so now I was standing in front of one of the dreaded entrances to Hell. Fallen avoid them like the plague, knowing they're major hot-spots for demons. Actually, they're the hot-spots for demons. If you want to get killed by one, this was the place to go. Luckily, there was none here at the moment.
I did research, and the only way for an angel to enter Hell- half, or pure- is to offer blood from both of your wings, thus weakening the angel and making it easier for them to become corrupted while in Hell. As sick as that was, I had to do it. Gulping, I pulled a small silver knife out of the worn pocket of my grey dress. I pulled my left wing close to my body and stuck the knife gently into the soft black feathers, hissing a little as I made a tiny cut. Two tiny drops of blood splattered on the smooth grey stones in front of me. I drew my right wing close next, and gently did the same thing. Three more drops fell on the grey surface.
For a second, nothing happened. Then the stones cracked and began to open, revealing a deep pit going down, down, down to the place I had heard horror stories about ever since my child mind could comprehend them- Hell. The place that my mother was from, and still might be. I winced. The place that part of me belonged to.
Before I could have second thoughts, I closed my eyes, held my breath, and stepped off the grey stone platform into the pit, plummeting at a startlingly fast pace. The heat began to grow, and I knew I was getting closer. I spread out my wings, not flapping them, but allowing their aerodynamic shape to slow me down.
In total, I believe it took me almost five minutes to fall all the way to Hell. I despised every second. Unlike falling from Heaven, where it was almost pleasant, despite the pain, falling to Hell was horrible. It was hot, unbelievably, indescribably hot, and I could feel the pain and fear and hatred radiating through the very air I was breathing. I could sense the dark demon side of me twisting and churning, making me feel ill. I had found out during my research that my demon half was a separate entity, poisoning my thoughts and my actions. It had always existed, but once it realized I was trying to get back to Heaven, where it was much weaker, it began to become a more active presence. My worst fear was that one day it would be set free.
