Damien Brunner Imagine
Author's Note: I know he doesn't play for them anymore but this was requested A LONG TIME ago and I felt like I still needed to write it for thatkaleighchick; sorry it's a few years late.
Y/N's POV:
Damien had just come back to the Devils and I couldn't of been happier. He had looked me up in the phone book and wanted to meet up.I agreed with no hesitation and got ready to go. Deciding to look a bit fancier than normal, I curled my hair, picked out a pink dress and slipped on some white ballet flats.
Grabbing my keys and my purse, I got into my Jeep and drove to Applebee's to meet up with the one and only Damien Brunner.
You see, we'd been an item a while ago, when he last played in New Jersey. Nicknamed the cutest couple on the team, we'd been in a happy, stable relationship... until he got traded.
We tried the long distance thing and it just didn't work. It was a mutual split, deciding that trying to stay together was too hard on both of us.
So when I heard he was coming back to New Jersey, I was hoping for a phone call from him, wanting to get back together or at least meet up.
I'd tried dating other guys after he left but none of them were Damien... the man that I craved and couldn't live without.
I saw him as soon as I walked in the door. He was sat at a table by the windows in the back, apparently he remembered I loved sitting near natural light.
As I approached the table, he stood up. He was still quite tall, compared to me, and hadn't changed much. Still looked like the man I fell in love with years ago.
Damien handed me a bouquet of flowers and engulfed me in a bear hug. We sat down after that and began talking about our lives.
He stopped me mid-sentence, saying "I'm really sorry for interrupting you Y/N, but I just have to ask. Do you have a boyfriend?"
I started to giggle.
"What?" He smirked.
"Single as a Pringle." I replied.
He grabbed my face and kissed me. Quite unexpected but gladly accepted.
"God I missed you Y/N. I'm so sorry I ever left you. Soul mates aren't ever supposed to leave each other once they find each other."
"You think we're soul mates?" I replied.
"I know we're soul mates Y/N. So I was wondering, would you consider starting over... Going out with me again?" Damien asked shyly.
"I don't wanna start over. I wanna pick off right where we left off. Where you were gonna propose."
You had shocked him. He sat there, jaw dropped. "H-How did you kn-know about that?"
"You left the ring in your closet when you left. I was cleaning it up to send all your stuff to you, and it fell off one of the higher shelves."
Damien got down on one knee.
"Well I guess I have to ask now. Y/N... You are my soulmate, my partner in crime, and one half of the cutest couple of the New Jersey Devils... I can't imagine spending another second without, God knows it was hard enough when I got traded away... Be my forever... Will you marry me darling?"
You screamed, drawing looks from everyone in the restaurant. Unable to speak, you nodded your head as tears of happiness rolled down your cheeks.
He got up and kissed you, then engulfed you in another of his famous bear hugs. Everyone started clapping and cheering.
He whispered something in your ear that you couldn't quite make out. Something about being the happiest man alive.
There wasn't a ring yet, but there would be, when you went home together and he proposed again, this time properly, with the ring and all.
