"Anything else you would like with your order?" A lean woman with short brown hair asked while scribbling down an order.
"No, that's all thank you," An older man replied looking away from the woman.
The woman walked towards a young boy, who came to the coffee shop every morning. She stepped beside him.
"Medium Cappuccino, light cream, no sugar?" The woman met eyes with the boy.
"Sounds right to me!" He smiled and looked down at the table disconnecting the meeting of their eyes.
"What is your name? Would you possibly like to work here someday?" The woman tapped her foot on the ground not realizing that she was doing it.
"Dakota, I actually just graduated from university and got my Bachelor's degree, but possibly as a part time job I'd be interested in working here."
"You really are a great young man!" The woman nodded and stepped to the counter to put in the orders she had taken.
Dakota sat quietly, and gazed through the window at an odd bird repeatedly pecking on a sticker that showed on the other side on the glass. He glanced away from the window and noticed a familiar face. Hailey Mya, his study partner from his sophomore year in high school. He thought to himself, she really looks different, she looks better to be honest with myself, maybe I should talk to her. Hailey has a friend with her too, bonus!
Dakota glanced away from Hailey and had an argument with himself if it were a good idea to talk to them. Hailey and Dakota had gotten in an argument in high school about starting a relationship in the middle of a friendship. Fuck it, that was the past, plus she probably forgot about it I'm gonna talk to her.
The lady who took Dakota's order sent an older man to serve Dakota's coffee.
"Ahm," the man mumbled,"M-medium Cappuccino, light cream, no sugar?" He looked up at Dakota after he finished reading the receipt.
"Yes," Dakota's arm reached out to grab his coffee.
"Enjoy," the man put on a small, unhappy smile as he walked away.
Dakota took several sips of his coffee before gaining his confidence to talk to Hailey and possibly even her friend.
Dakota stood up and took a deep breath and exhaled as he walked towards Hailey's table. Hailey looked up at him with a blank expression.
Dakota closed his eyes and opened them,"Hey, are you Hailey? We had Study Hall together back in high school."
"Dakota Easton?" She gave an unsatisfied look.
Dakota slowly stepped back," um, y-yeah."
"People like you make me sick." She stood and grabbed her tray of coffee and threw it on Dakota. Dakota yelped and ran out of the door in embarrassment and overall, mixed emotions.
Dakota watched through the windows as people scolded Hailey and yelled for security. He looked at the forming red scaldings in his arms and legs, and the stain on his white shirt.
"Great." He forced his hand in his pocket and kicked a rock in light anger. Dakota never had a temper, he was always a shy, quiet person. He sat on a bench outside of the Café.
"You okay?" A girl approaching the entry to the café asked Dakota.
"Just great," Dakota sputtered sarcastically.
"Hey look, I'm sorry, it's not my fault," she stepped away from the door.
"I know, I'm sorry I just-" Dakota was cut off.
"I understand, we can talk about it," she sat next to Dakota.
"No, I'll be alright," Dakota looked down at his feet.
"That's what everyone says, just let it out, I'm not leaving till you do."
Dakota explained from high school to now, his past relationships with Hailey to the girl.
"Wow, she really took it too far didn't she? Hot coffee?" The girl looked into Dakota's eyes with sympathy.
"I know, but I shouldn't have rushed things between us," Dakota ran his finger through his hair.
"No this is not your fault, where is she? I want to talk to her," she stood looking through the windows for Hailey.
"Security took her out."
"I see that, what a bummer. I wanted to slap some sense into her," the girl sat back down.
Dakota chuckled,"That would've been something. What is your name anyways?"
"I bet! Oh and my name is Safiya" She laughed and slapped her leg while she laughed.
"Do you come here often?" Dakota asked.
"Everyday actually!" Safiya giggled.
"Wait, really? Me too! I order the-" Dakota was cut off.
"Cappuccino, medium, light cream, no sug-" She stopped herself from finishing her sentence after realizing how creepy she sounded.
"W-wow, you sure know your stuff...." Dakota didn't know to leave or to stay, instead he still sat.
Little did Dakota know, she came every morning just to see him.
"Possibly, could you sit with me just when I drink my coffee?" Safiya asked.
"That's fine with me, let's go," Dakota stood.
They entered the door and sat at the table and waited to have her order taken.

Finally her order came after waiting patiently."Thank you!" She accepted her coffee and took a small sip.
"Is it too hot?" Dakota asked.
"No, it's actually not too hot for some reason, it usually it though!" She replied with a smile.
She took several more sips.
"Hey so maybe we could keep in touch? Meet here sometime tomorrow? Could I get your number?" Dakota's cheeks flushed red and his body got the chills.
"Sure! Oh man I'd love to meet up!" She smiled kindly and pulled out of her purse a pen a a piece of paper. Safiya scribbled down her number and handed it to Dakota.
"Thanks, I'd better head out now," Dakota stood up and waved to her slowly walking off.
