"My mom just wanted to offer her condolences" I heard an attractive British accent say. As I came down the stairs I made eye contact with a pair of piercing green eyes. Aunt Maggie turned and saw me, and I looked down quickly hoping the warmth I felt rising to my face didn't show.
"Thanks so much Harry! We really apprechiate it, and this is my neice I was telling you about; Jennifer"
"It's Jen" I said with a small smile.
"Nice to finally meet you" Harry replied flashing me a cheeky grin
"Why don't you invite your parents over for dinner! It's almost ready now" Aunt Maggie added in cheerily.
"Sure, my mom would love that. I'l get her and we'll be over soon. " Harry gave a polite smile and nodded in my direction before leaving.
"The Dimmings have been our close family friends ever since we moved in" Aunt Maggie said fondly,"Harry is the twins' favorite baby sitter!"
"Cool" Her constant enthusiasm was giving me a headache.
"Jen honey, I want you to be happy here. If you need to talk or anything just tell me, ok?"
I felt gulity for how curt I had been with her, after all I'm sure she was mourning the loss too. I just didn't want her to look at me like I was a piece of thin glass about to break. Then again I couldn't argue that my mental state was hardly stable. "Yeah, I know. Thanks Aunt Maggie, for everything." I gave her an appreciative smile, and she smiled back hesitating before finally hugging me tightly.
"I'l go finish up dinner! I hope you like salmon!" She bounced back to her peppy self in record timing. Well so much for our moment.
I went back up stairs to my room and plopped face down onto my bed.
"Jen?" My twin cousins stood in my doorway.
"Yeah, what's up?" They were only 7 and although sometimes acted spoiled they were still cute.
"Can you play with us?" Jared timidly begged. Before I could answer Jenson chimed in.
"Pleease?"
I laughed a little at their pleading and agreed. They happily grabbed my hands and led me to what must have been their play room. There was a tv in the corner with a bunch of gaming systems hooked up to it and 3 bean bag chairs. The carpet had a roadway on it. The ground was littered with toy cars and Legos.
"What do you want to play?" I asked
"How about cars?" Jenson suggested
"Sure." I smiled and sat down on the edge of the carpet... or roadway and selected my vehicle of choice.
After about 20 minutes of racing around on the carpet with the boys, Jared announced that he was the winner, which caused an argument about how "he can't win if there's no finish line" to break out between the twins. I tried to suggest a new game but both were set on figuring out who should have won.
"Hey! I'm the ref and it's a tie." I exclaimed. Finally that seemed to settle their competition.
"I thought I was the ref!" a deep British accent said from the doorway. I looked over to see an offended looking Harry.
"Harry!!!" The boys shouted in unison. He smiled and said that dinner was ready.
The boys bounded down the steps lightly shoving each other during their race to the table. We followed into my Aunt's beautiful dinning room.
"Hi!, You must be Jennifer! I'm Mrs. Dimmings. It's a pleasure to meet you!" A cheery looking women with long curly brown hair and an elegant face beamed down at me. The family resemblance to her son was obvious as she flashed her dimpled smile.
"Nice to meet you too" I smiled back at her and shook hands before taking a seat next to the twins. Harry sat directly across from me and next to his mother. A man with broad shoulders and a heavy laugh, whom I'm guessing was Harry's Father, entered with my Uncle and sat down next to Mrs. Dimmings. My Uncle sat at the head of the table next to him and my Aunt across from him at the opposite head of the table next to me.
The salmon was really good, I had to admit. My Aunt may act like a complete air head but she was a fabulous cook. I even ate extra slow just to savor it. The first half of dinner was quiet, polite conversation was upheld but i found my thoughts wandering. I hardly spoke enless I was adressed directly and I noticed that Harry did the same. I was somewhat lost in my own world. Still thinking about my parents. It was hard sometimes to focus on everyday life after the fire, because that everyday stuff just didn't feel real.
"Jen?" My Aunt looked at me with concern and I realized she may have just asked me a question. Shit.
"Um what? I, uh... sorry I kinda spaced out" Fantastic now they think I've lost it. Harry was covering his mouth and appeared to be trying not to laugh. I mentally face-palmed for looking mental and kicked him lightly under the table. He composed himself but continued to smirk at me.
"I was just asking if you would like to go camping with us. We have a trip scheduled for next week with the Dimmings! We go every year and it's alot of fun! What do you say?" Even though I really hate anything to do with outdoors, the hopeful look on my Aunt's face convinced me otherwise.
"Yeah, sounds fun" I offered another smile and I swear she almost burst with excitement. Basically for the rest of the dinner Aunt Maggie spewed infinite details about all the fun in store for me during the upcoming trip, and Harry smirked at me every time we made eye contact.
**I know it's short but I'm trying to update everyday so bare with me!! P.S. The next chapter is somewhat in Harry's POV. Comment and vote please! Love always! --Kat xx
