Chapter 2: The Neighbors
I inspected my map closely and discovered that the closest house to me belonged to Rodeo, so I decided to start there. Making my way through the trees, occasionally running into one, I finally stopped outside of a western looking house. I knocked on the door and heard someone, most likely Rodeo, shout, "COME IN!"
I started to get nervous. I never was good at making new friends. What if the townsfolk didn't accept me, seeing as I was the only human in this town? But I quickly pushed that thought out of my mind and pulled open the front door. Inside, I immediately recognized the decorating theme in the house: western. Just like the exterior, the walls were tan and everywhere I looked I could either see a cowboy hat or some type of cowboy item.
I looked forward and saw a strikingly handsome bull staring at me, his mouth slightly agape. I started to feel awkward and out of place. Why was he staring? Did I have something on my face? Then the realization hit me. Duh! He wasn't used to humans! He had probably never seen one before!
I decided the make the first move, so I waved and said cheerfully, "Hi! My name's Alena! What's your name?" I asked, even though I knew the answer.
The bull quickly pulled himself together and stuttered, "Oh... Uh... M-my name is Rodeo! I.. Uh... W-welcome to Rosecreek A-Alena..." He quickly cut off and stared down at his hooves, his cheeks coloring slightly.
I started to really want to leave. First Capp'n, now Rodeo?! What next, was Tom Nook going to confess his love for me? My life was turning into a soap opera. I stayed for a few more minutes before I told Rodeo that I had to go to Nooks Cranny. I shuffled my way out the door and let out a big sigh of relief when I had shut the door behind me.
Next, I decided to stop by Goldie's house since it was only a few minutes away from Rodeo's. The house was plain white with a nice off white roof. I knocked, having a good sense about this neighbor, for once. I wiped my feet off and stepped in the door. A graceful looking golden retriever was sitting cross legged on a lacy white couch, sipping tea from a china mug. She looked up at me, her shiny green eyes staring into my brown ones.
"Hello! Who might you be?" Goldie said softly, setting her tea down on her coffee table.
"Hi, my names Alena and I just moved here to Rosecreek. And you must be Goldie?" I greeted, walking over to the sofa and shaking her paw. All my thoughts of Rodeo slipped away as the relaxing aroma of Goldie and her home drifted around me.
"Yes I am! Have you met anyone else yet in the town, or am I the first?" Goldie inquired.
"Oh, the only other person I met was Rodeo. He seems like a nice... animal." I murmured, not quite knowing how else to describe him.
" Isn't he wonderful? He's so considerate and sweet and handsome!" Goldie swooned, and for some reason this rubbed me the wrong way. I instantly began thinking back to Rodeo's house, where he had acted weird. Although, there WAS something cute about him, the way he would blush when I talked to him. Was I CRUSHING on a BULL? I shook any feelings I had out of my head and tried to focus on the present. I told Goldie the same thing that I had told Rodeo, that I had to go to Nooks, but Goldie insisted on me having a cup of tea first.
I few minutes later I exited the house, saying goodbye to Goldie and promising to come back on the way out.
Roald seemed like a very nice penguin, although his decor choices kind of frightened me. His house was full of childish items, from slides to train sets, but hey, I wasn't judging. Nothing of note happened at Roald's house, the same for the squirrel Nibbles. She was so welcoming and told me that she thought we were going to become best friends, which I didn't argue with. I could use a best friend.
Walking up to Margie's house, I was immediately overcome with a sense of girliness. Her house was bright pink outside and in. All her furniture was hot pink. Margie squealed when I came in and hopped over to me. Well, the elephant actually sort of lumbered over to me. She put her freshly manicured pink-nailed... hand... on me and exclaimed, "OH EM GEEEEE! ARE YOU ALENA? Girl, Pelly told everyone you would be here! I am SO excited! I love making new friends and you seem like just the gal!"
Oh my gosh. I already couldn't stand her. I hated overly excited people. And I hated girly girls. I muttered a hello and escaped as quickly as I could.
The last person I had to go meet was the mayor of the town. On my way over to the town hall, I was picturing possible mayors in my head. Would he be a muscular young wolf? Or possibly an actual HUMAN? All my hoped and dreams crumbled when I spotted the mayor. He was a very old turtle with a cane and a gray beard. I wondered briefly if he was related to Capp'n and hoped not. As much as I didn't want to, I forced myself to walk up to the mayor and introduce myself.
"Heh heh HORF! My name is Tortimer, and I am the mayor of this here town. You are Alena, yes? Good! Pleased to make your acquaintance! On holidays or special event days, make sure to come find me because I might have something for you! Ta-ta for now!" He waved as I turned and finally was able to stop outside Nooks Cranny.
(A.N.) SORRY FOR THE BORING CHAPTER I tried really hard to think of interesting stories for each of the neighbors but it was very hard, especially since I am on vacation so I have other things on my mind.
