Don't you look at me like that. It wasn't my choice to fall in love. Or even in like. Shit happens...that's what everyone else says, why shouldn't I?
We met sophomore year. Me, the awkward girl. No friends. Goth. The perfect example of what my school looked down on.
It was a private school with high standards to say the least. The normal was cheerleaders and jocks, nothing else. As you can tell...I was far out of the 'norm'. They make it hard to be yourself in the most cliché school uniform. Plaid skirt, white polo, doesn't get much better. I can't even keep count of how many detentions I was given for not following their dress code. You could say the headmaster and I were...good buddies. I was practically the John Bender of detention.
Now, Dominik on the other hand was everything the school looked for.
Jock.
Jock.
J. O. C. K.
Have I made my point clear yet?
No one at this school sat alone, even nerds. They became cheerleaders and jocks just to hide. I never felt the need to do such a thing. For once I was safer out in the open. I had nothing to hide. Yes, I sat alone every day. So what?
My brother found it worrying I had no friends. Soooooooorry!
The day we met had already started off with irritation. Let's start there.
*Beep beep beep!*
My body released it's hold on sleep as I rolled over to slam my fist against the cold plastic.
5:30...seriously?
I pried myself away from my bed's mourning grasp. Warmth cascades from my skin replaced with a cold chill. No light seeps through the crack in my black curtains thankfully.
Despite my not having friends at school, I still had my pen pals. My laptop screen lit up half of my room as I slowly typed back my responses. Looking at the clock it was finally six. Which in my house meant, it was late enough to start my shower.
Hot water poured out of my faucet over my bed ridden blonde hair. The pink streak plastered itself to the side of my face. 'Shadow Moses' by Bring Me The Horizon plays over the running water. A slight rose smell filters through the steam.
"Lil hurry up!" My little brother pounded his fist against the bathroom door.
"Get away Monster, let me finish!" I yelled back with a smile.
I heard him stomping his feet impatiently as I turned the nozzle off. Draping the white towel against my frame I allow him to open the door.
"Make it quick, I still have things to get done." I snapped as he slammed my bathroom door.
Grumbling under my breath I drag on the uniform. Throwing on my black, cotton jacket I sighed. The silver buttons, clover details etched into the metal, glint in the pale sunlight. My black combat boots slip over my feet with ease, my most comfortable accessory. But the one that causes the most problems.
"Here Beast, it's all yours." Monster walked out of my bathroom with a small smile. I ruffled his sandy blonde mop of hair.
"Go get ready for school, I'll come get you soon."
I had to take my brother to school every morning, and home every night. Our parents were always hung over from the night before, or they could just care less about us.
My hair dryer took over the silence of the house. The clapping of my straightener took over afterwards. Full concentration on hair out of the way I turned on my music. When I was awake, there was never a moment of silence. Rocking out while lining my eyes with a black liquid eye liner. Mascara widened my eyes, a silver lining of eye shadow to add a little silver lining to the day.
"Hey Beast, you should wear that skull bracelet!" Monster yelled from another room.
My fingers found the multi colored bracelet numbly. I suppose I could risk another detention for expression.
"Monster, are you ready?" I questioned as I slung my bag over my shoulder.
"Yes." He answered from around the corner.
"You know this bracelet is getting me detention." I pointed out as the engine roared to a start.
"And this make any difference? I'll just stay in the middle school to study. You always told me we all have the freedom to express ourselves even if the consequence is a few hours of boredom."
"You sure, Monster?"
"Yes, now drive before I get one too."
My mom's white Pontiac slid easily down the driveway. I let Monster control the radio for once. After forty-five minutes I pulled in front of the middle school section of Hillside.
"Okay Monster, remember you're only in sixth grade. So don't be too much of a smartass."
"Try to make some friends today, Beast." He looked at me with a stern face until we both burst out laughing.
A few of his friends ran up to the familiar car, "Hey Damian! Come on!"
He smiled back at me sadly, "Love you, Lilith. Today will be different."
"Love you too Dame, I'll see you after detention."
The car door slammed as I heard the usual chatter from his friends, things like 'dude, your sister is such a badass!' Every time they said something like that I'd just laugh at them, if only they knew how terribly boring it was.
I pulled away slowly into the high school parking lot. My mind was caught up in Damian, and his ease of making friends when a silver pick-up truck pulled out in front of me. I slammed roughly on my brakes and pressed my horn repeatedly.
"What the hell?!" I screamed out the window.
An unfamiliar face looked back at me apologetically. I rolled my eyes and pulled past him.
"This is why I don't want friends," I grumbled, "can't stand people."
I stomped into the school, past all the quiet flats in my clunky boots. A tired voice came over the intercom.
"Lilith Aphra, please come down to my office."
Sneers followed my usual trek to the office. A new student sat uncomfortably in the blue plastic chair. I took a seat two away from him awkwardly.
"Hi." He said nervously.
