Sitting in the library, I looked around before setting my head down for my afternoon nap. An hour or so later someone slammed their palms down on my table. My head shot up as I let out a small scream.
"Calm down, Aphra." Letterman said with his little smile.
"Oh. It's you."
"Yes, it's me. Hold back that excitement, please, it's killing me."
I rolled my eyes and checked my phone. Two more hours in this stupid library...most likely with him.
"So Aphra, will you tell me your name now?" He pushed.
"Will you leave me alone if I do?" I snapped.
Letterman seemed to think about this for a minute, he then nodded his head.
"It's Lilith." I told him slowly.
Feeling like a weight had finally drained off of my shoulders I took a breath.
"Now you have to leave me alone." I told him quickly.
He laughed, more than he should have. "I never promised, I only nodded my head. And your name is really pretty, what about Lil?"
I finally let a smile pass over, a real smile. Nodding my head I nudged his foot.
"Oh yeah, my name is Dominik."
"Mysterious, how about Dom?"
He chuckled and nodded his head. "Do you maybe want to get...pudding with me some time?"
I looked at him for a second in disbelief, "Pudding? Ever heard of a burger?"
"Sorry, most girls I know don't eat burgers."
"Well this one does."
He smiled again, looking down at the table, which forced me to smile. An actual smile...not a sneer or smirk.
"You have dimples!" He exclaimed.
I looked down as I felt the heat rise in my cheeks.
"I can't get a burger tonight, I have to take my brother home."
"I know, I saw you drop him off."
My puzzled expression made him laugh even more, "I may have been confused about what parking lot I had to go to. How about you drop him off and I'll come pick you up. Girls gotta eat."
"I can't leave him home alone, some other time I promise."
"Stay out of detention and I won't cross my fingers."
"Cross your fingers?" I asked with a smirk.
"Well yeah, you're going to pinky promise."
He set his elbow on the table, pinky outstretched. I intertwined my pink in his, and he shook it with an air of finality.
"After lacrosse practice tomorrow, me, you, burgers."
I nodded my head and let him stay.
"See, when you start actually talking to me it's really hard to stop." He told me with his easy smile.
"Wait you play lacrosse?"
"Yeah, I played football and lacrosse at my last school, but didn't feel like doubling up the sports this year. I felt like I'd be seen as an overachiever here."
I nodded my head, "I wouldn't know, I don't pay enough attention to sports."
"Why not?"
"You saw the way those jocks treated me, calling me 'it'. It's not like I actually enjoy that. Imagine if I actually showed up to a sporting event."
