4. What happened to Nora, Pol, Greg and the narrator in the end? What does the new Alice remind them of? Why?
Nora married Pol and they were about to have their first baby. Greg and the narrator work in the same office. Greg is in charge of the payroll and the checks and the narrator is a confidential secretary. The new Alice sort of reminded them of Inday because the new girl can type a little, came out of a convertible and wore a flaring red skirt. Alice wears her hair in a scraggly bang that Inday used to show off with her half-bang. Like Inday, Alice has those big, troubled and dark eyes too. They both smile like they want to be friends with someone. What caught the narrator’s attention the most was not only the eminent physical similarities, but as well as the fact that she was also alone in the world just like Inday was.
5. Explain the symbolic meaning of the title.
In my opinion, the morning before us means that there is always a new hope every single day. A morning or the dawning of a day refers to a new beginning that we are ought to accomplish something great before we put that day to an end. We sometimes tend to think about things way beyond our control. We seem to be living in the future when we should be in the present and worry about the now, not of the later. Live one day at a time. It is never too late for one to understand why we are given the chance to start each day anew. What matters is how you treat that chance that you got because you only live once. Make the most out of your life. Live your life to the fullest. Your direction determines your destination.
6. What factors aggravate the disorientation of the youth?
Lack of communication, increase of divisions, ruthless competition and insufficient wisdom about life are the factors that worsen the disorientation of the youth. Lack of communication often results to misunderstanding and in our world, such may lead to constant arguments and eventually divisions among themselves. When the youth has found a specific group where they can identify with, competition among one another arises. Most of these existing problems in our society usually end up in several unfortunate conditions like unhealthy relationships, gossip, plagiarism, libel, theft, damage to property, physical injuries and even death. This is where wisdom about life come in. The youth needs to be well educated about how to make wise decisions in their lives. In the crucial stage of character development among the youth, Godly wisdom and Christ-like behavior must be instilled in their hearts and minds. It is never going to get easy; however, it is the only way to solve the exasperation of the disorientation of the youth. Be humble.
7. What roles do parents, teachers and other adults, and religion play in helping young people find themselves?
The youth depends more on their “friends” rather than on their parents when it comes to decision making because they relate themselves with their peers more than the ones whom they call mother and father. The parents can greatly influence the youth since they live under one roof and the child grows in their loving arms. They serve as the guidance of the youth in everyday living and role models because the youth truly looks up to their parents. Teachers are ought to be good examples too since they are the ones around in the second home of the youth. They have the obligation to oversee the child while the parents are not around and make sure that they are being productive young people in our society. Religion plays the most essential role in helping young people find themselves because it is between the person and God. It is a life-long commitment and covenant that one must be able to keep.
