Iris's POV

God, no one gets it. It doesn't get better. Ever.

I slammed the front door and walked down the steps. My long black hair was blowing in the wind. I put my earbuds in and played Nirvana on full blast. Tuning out the world. I shoved my hands in my sweater pockets and headed down the road to the forest near my house. It was the only place I found peace. No one knew about my secret place in the forest, except me. I kept walking through the thick bush for about a mile and I finally reached the bridge. I cross the bridge and find my small oasis. There was a large rock off to the left and a little pond to the right. I took my familiar place on the rock and laid down. I eventually fell asleep.

The noise of footsteps were approaching me. I heard the shuffling in the grass. My deep blue eyes slowly opened to see a boy watching me.

"What the hell! Who are you?" I shouted.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you," he seemed alarmed.

"How did you find this place?" I demanded.

"I come here all the time. I was about to ask you that question," he half smiled. The first thing I noticed was his beautiful green eyes. The really lit up when he smiled. It was kind of.......cute.

"Oh, I- I come here all the time as well," Goddammit Iris. Why did you stutter?

"I live on the other side of this forest," he said, pointing away from my house.

"I live on this side," I said, pointing the exact opposite direction from him.

"Oh cool," he said.

"I have a question," I said.

"Yes?" He asked.

"Who even are you? What's your name? And how come I've never seen you here before?" I asked.

"My name is Eli. And come to think of it, I don't know yours," he implied.

"Oh, sorry. I'm Iris," I turned bright red in embarrassment.

"It's ok," he laughed. He smiled showing all his teeth. God, he's hot.

"Hello Eli," I smiled.

"Hello Iris," he smiled.

"I get a feeling like this is going to be a good friendship," he smirked.

"Oh do you?" I teased.

"I do."
We both left the forest and retreated back to our homes. I walked up the steps and shut the door.

ELI'S POV
XXXXXXXX

On the walk home I couldn't stop thinking about her. Iris. That's a beautiful name. It suits such a beautiful girl. Her eyes, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by them. They're so blue. And her music taste is amazing. While she was asleep, I could hear Kurt Cobain singing. Nirvana is the best man. She's perfect. How come I'm just meeting her now? When she started talking to me, I became so nervous. She seemed freaked out by me being there. She eventually became more comfortable with me being there though. A girl like her is never going to like a guy like me.

I reached my house and ran upstairs to my room. I grabbed my sketchbook and started drawing. I had a specific image in my head. My pencil glided across the paper.

Finally I had a perfect sketch. It was of a boy and a girl holding hands while sitting on a rock in the forest. I hope that one day that's Iris and I.

THE NEXT DAY

I woke up at six in the morning and made myself some eggs. I toasted some bagels and put cream cheese on them and packed them in my backpack. I ran to my special place in the forest and I waited. Finally, Iris showed up.

"Hey Eli!" Iris waved at me while she crossed the bridge.

"Hey Iris, how are you," I asked.

"I am great, how are you," she asked.

"Wonderful. I brought you something," I reached into my bag and handed her a warm bagel.

"Thank you Eli," she smiled, taking the bagel from my hand.

"So, what school do you attend?" She asked.

"I go to Pine Hill Academy. what about you?" I asked.

"I go there too!" She said.

"Today is my first day," I told her.

"You'll make friends fast, plus you have got me to show you around," she smiled. That made me feel way better about going to school.

"Thank you so much Iris, I probably wouldn't be able to make it through the first day without you," I said. We sat on the rock eating our bagels.

"You're welcome Eli, I know how hard it is on your first day at a new school," she laughed. We both finished our bagels and put our backpacks on.

"Want to walk with me to school?" She asked me.

"Sure, why not?" We both headed across the bridge leading to her house and made our way to school.
