"Coco?" I can hear his footsteps, the concern of his voice. He finds me and looks down, I'm so happy to see him! I wag my tail with joy looking up to him. This man here is Bastian, the man that picked me out from a pile of orphan puppies, from a stuffy box engulfed with the smell of tails, ears and paws it was, behind a barn in a smelly field near a town in eastern Boomtown called Farrow. I don't remember much of where I came from, but it doesn't matter to me anymore because Bastian, is now the person who I live with, my family.
This all happened on one sunny day in the smelly field, a hand reached into the pile and found me, suddenly I was dangling high in the air. "This one," a man said. It was my first glimpse for the rest of my life. He was slender with long and lean muscles. He had keen, hazel eyes and curtain hair. Looking at his eyes, I could see my reflection, I smiled. "Welcome to the Aston family, Coco." This man looks certain that he will take good care of me, and I also believe that I will take good care of him.
Bastian moved me to a Baley neighbourhood called Spruce where he lives in a little house he bought in lake Boomtown. In this house, I will spend the rest of my life. Everyday (except when he's at work), Bastian takes me to the park for a walk and he would call me to join him and play. Sometimes on weekends, he often took me to the track with him, which I enjoyed very much.
He always seemed to have a passion in racing cars since little.
It was when he was 18 that Bastian had his first driving school. He came to be interested in cars since, mainly car racing. Now he is a professional car racer, racing in some popular tracks in the world. When he had spare time he would play car racing games on the console to practice on the race tracks.
The race tracks in the game console is very realistic to the one in real life, so he could practice the turns and observe the length of the track--*sniff* *sniff* I can smell something. Something alcoholic. It wouldn't be Bastian, he has never been drinking since the day he got fired from a small work. So I thought I should see outside for a person who has been drinking near our house.
I rushed towards the front door and I could see Bastian through the window. The person who has been drinking is him, Bastian. I jump through the hole that Bastian made at the bottom of the door especially for me and walk towards him.
I tap my paws on his foot, trying to make him tell me what is currently happening, why he has been drinking."Coco, I have both good news and bad news, which would you like to hear first?" Good news! I barked. He doesn't speak dog language of course, but surprisingly he always understands what I say.
" Ok, the good news is that I will be racing in a race cup in Stromlo, and the bad news is..." I look puzzled, thinking what the bad news could be. "The bad news is that I am not allowed to bring you with me."
"It will only be 3 days, I will be back before you know it, I promise."
I yap sadly but I guess it's a good thing for him, but then I'm worried that something would happen to him. "Don't you worry, I will be fine." He said, trustingly. The next day I came looking for him. He is nowhere to be seen around the house. I guess he left while I was asleep... He should've woke me up and told me that he was leaving. But then I thought that Bastian would be home on the third day and I am certain that he will come back, because he never left promises undone.
Two days later...
Today is the third day he had been gone, I happily jump and run on the grass, digging holes in the dirt, waiting for Bastian to arrive. I am running out of food but thinking since he will be back today I finish my last bowl. It was already dark outside and I feel anxious. "where could he be?"
I couldn't sleep that night, my tummy keeps on rumbling, I have a really bad headache, dizziness just keeps on getting onto me. I believe that today onwards is going to be the worst days ever. I keep on repeating this in my head, "I am a dog and I know how to fast." Just when is this going to end? Bastian I need you, I need you so much I don't think I can take it anymore.
Two days after the third day, I started wandering around outside the house. Here I am on the streets, looking for food. I couldn't take it anymore, I have no idea what has happened while he was in that race cup. I'm starting to think that Bastian is never going to come home.
Looking around the neighbourhood I can't seem to find much. I went to our neighbour's houses and barked in front of their doors asking for food but they shoo me away, treating me like a fly, since none of our neighbours seem to be friendly and actually knows us. So I went to their bins outside the house but I can't seem to reach the top of the bins and I fall everytime I try to get on them.
Stromlo is a long way away so I'm pretty sure I won't be able to reach that place since it takes over at least 2 years by paws and that seems impossible. From then I knew that I have ran out of ideas on surviving. I have given up, I don't want to waste my energy on surviving anymore. The only option is for me to wait for Bastian to come even if I have to die waiting for him.
I have run out of energy, my breathing has shortened, my tummy feels like it's going to explode. I'm pretty sure that i'm going to die here, in this small house where I spend most of my life with Bastian. Remembering the time he picked me from that stuffy box, the most memorable day of my life...
