A New Beginning

Chapter 2.

I tried opening my eyes- it felt like they were super glued shut, but I managed to open them and I wish I didn't; everything was so white and blinding. Memories flashed through my mind. Oh shit. Mike is dead. I was shot. How am I not dead? Where am I? What's going on? This is all fucked up. My head is killing me. I'm hooked onto a million wires. Ah, shit I'm at the hospital. Just when I thought I was in heaven and done with it all. But when I come to think of it I just killed someone, I highly doubt I'd be welcomed into heaven - reason or no reason.

I tried to get up but only got the wires and machines in a tangle. How irritating. A nurse walked in at the same time I tried untangling all these wires. She looked around her mid 40's. She smiled at me and I just stared like a mental patient can you blame me? I mean after all that's happened – how the fuck did I end up in a hospital.

"I don't think so, Missy. Where do you think you're going?" She scolded in a friendly manner. She had a warm smile. It reminded me of my mother.

"I just needed to use the rest room." I cleared my throat, my voice sounded so hoarse. It's like I haven't spoken in months. I think the nurse guessed what I was thinking by the look on my face.

"It's okay, you've been in a coma for three weeks now, honey." I think my eyes fell out of their sockets.

"Seriously? Three weeks?" It felt like it all just happened an hour ago.

"Yes, your neighbors called the police when they heard a gun fire go off inside your house." She gave me a sad look. She done some things with the wires and wrote some stuff down.

"And... Mike, what happened to him?" I asked quietly

"Mike?" She asked confused.

"Yes, Mike. The man I killed?"

"Hi, Chloe." I looked up and saw my biological dad for the first time in my life. All I did was stare once again. He looked worried, really worried. I mean why would he be worried? If he was worried for me he should just save it. Just because my mum told me some sappy love stories about him that doesn't justify that he never – not once – came to see me. I was still his daughter.

"T-Tom?" I questioned.

"Yes, I'm a doctor at this hospital. Your doctor actually." Oh. Great, just great.

"Oh, okay. Do you know what happened to Mike?" I asked him.

"Chloe, I know you're in no shape to talk, but the police are here and they told me to inform them the minute you woke up. They need to ask you a few questions and since you're under age without any parent or guardian – I guess I'm the closest thing to that and they want me in here. Is that fine with you?"

"Yes, that's fine." Was all that managed to come out of my mouth. This man calls himself something close to a guardian or parent to me? He's crazy.

"Hello, Chloe, this is detective Carter and I'm detective White. Would you mind going through what happened for us?" Two detectives stood at the foot of my bed and looked serious as hell.

"Sure."

"And that was it; I woke up in here and found out I've been in a coma for almost a month." I concluded to the officers. I went through detail by detail and told them everything that has happened to me since day one. I know they only wanted to know what happened at the "crime scene" as they put it – but I felt the need to justify myself to them. To let them know I had my reasons and pretty damn good ones if you ask me.
