After the service, I am stopped by Blake's mother, who's holding a shoebox in her hands.
"Hi Tanner. How are you doing?"
I hesitate before responding. "I'm... I'm okay." She smiles, but I can tell it's forced.
"Um, so I found these in her room. There was a note on the top saying they were for you."
She passes me the box. On the top, like she said, is a note.
For the eyes of Tanner South only.I want to open it, but I decide to wait until I get home.
"Thank you." I say, almost in a whisper. She nods and gives me another sad smile, hugs me, then walks away. For a few minutes, I just stand there, my trembling hands gripping the box. I'm terrified to find out what is inside of it.

The car pulls into the driveway and my mom turns off the car while I keep staring straight forward.
"T? Hey, are you okay? What's in the box?"
I turn my head slightly to look at her and look back forward. I open the car door and walk in the door up to my room.
I throw open the door with tears running down my face, the box still in my hands.
Sitting down on the bed, I slowly pick up the top of the box. Inside are small envelopes marked with big black numbers, going up to 14. I frown, staring down into the box. Picking up the envelope marked 1, I flip it over and open it. It's a letter
My dearest Tanner:
I'm sorry I've done this to you, but it had to be done. The pressure, the pain, the fear for the future... It all became too much. As you know, my depression worsened and worsened until it became too much. I exploded. I finally worked up the courage to do it. So here I sit, writing these letters to you, with my weapons of choice next to me.
There are fourteen letters in here for each day after you receive them. Each has a spot for you to go that we have a memory at, and a small amount of money if needed.
Open one every day. It will make the pain go away eventually.
Sincerely, Blakely Halsing
