Kristy Lin Billuni, my writing coach, once told me that my female characters are "fierce." Amelia, Marie, and Lucy are all brave women who speak their minds. They have their issues, but they are, on the whole, badasses.
Jessica is not. At least not obviously so, and not at first.
I wanted to write a story about a woman who learns how to be a badass. So, yes, there are scenes where she is passive and bitchy. You may want to throw things at her. I know. There are reasons for that. I do think, however, that she is strong from the get-go in ways that are hidden under her codependency and passive-aggressiveness. We all have coping mechanisms. Please give her a chance to learn and grow.
Because she may be the fiercest one yet.
Also.
This is a story where weight is an issue. Jessica is a curvy girl. In addition to my struggles with depression that inspired The Sun and the Moon, I have had equally embarrassing struggles with weight. It's a sensitive issue for a lot of us. Jessica is fat-phobic and self-shaming. She needs to learn. Again, please give her a chance.

This is a first draft. It's been tough writing and it's a bit of a mess. I'm still writing it. Please let me know your thoughts.
