Crouching behind the cupboards, she occasionally let out slight soft giggles. It was his turn to count, and his turn to find her. They'd been at it for almost an hour. The game never seemed to tire her in any way. This was the only thing that kept her mind from all the chaos that was happening in the hospital.
She heard someone turning the doorknob. Breathing in a slower and quieter pace, she dug her fingertips into her knee caps nervously, trying to keep herself quiet. The door opened. She pursed her lips inwards, trying to cease her giggles as best as she could. Her heart was pounding so loud in her chest, she thought her ears were going to explode.
He took one step into the leucochroic study room.
Another.
Then he stopped.
Hah, you'll never be able to find me.
"Asper...where are ya, you little monkey..." came his silvery voice.
To her, every voice had a colour. Her best friend, Anthony's was a pure aeneous colour. Her mother's was a pure niveous colour, sometimes a puccoon when she was angry. His voice was of a silvery colour, and he never raised his voice at her, ever.
She heard the tapping of his shoes edging closer towards where she was. She pushed her form backwards, flattening herself farther into the wall. She lost sight of him as his footsteps walked pass the cupboard. Trying to get a glimpse of him, she wriggled forward slightly.
Crash!
Whoops, maybe not such a good idea after all....
Books, trophies, photo frames, all came tumbling down. He turned his head sharply towards the disastrous incident. Even though he knew she was there, she still did not give up, in hopes of him not being able to find her. She pushed her back farther in. He let out a slight chuckle.
"Come on Asp, it's pretty obvious that you're right behind the cupboard." She twitched her nose slightly.
"I'm not Asper, I'm just.....a cupboard!", she said in a thick voice, with a slightest hint of an Irish accent. He took another step closer, rolling his eyes.
"Asp, cupboards don't talk. Or have Irish accents." He walked towards her, avoiding the glass as best as he could. She let a soft sigh escape from her lips, finally giving up. She shot up, letting the blood recirculate her veins. Finally emerging from her hiding place, she curled her fingers a little, trying to get the feeling of them back.
Letting out a cheeky giggle, she fled from the scene as fast as her little legs could carry her. He extended his arms forward, trying to get her in his grasp. Evidently, he failed, because little giggles were echoing from the corridor.
Annoyed, he pressed his lips lightly together. Taking one last glance at the broken glass, he made it a point to leave and shut the door behind him.
Strutting into the kitchen like a diva, Asphodele yawned, obviously tired. Her fingers clasped the fridge door. Krystyna shook her head at her daughter in annoyance.
"No, Asp. Not now. Dinner's almost ready." The little girl contracted her brows downwards slightly, in displeasure. Then, as though another thought had came to her, her face instantly lit into a smile.
"Can we still continue our game mom? Please please please please pleaaaaaaaaaase?", she said in a sing-song voice, dragging the last 'please'. Her mother shook her head once more, but this time with a smile on her face.
"Alright, but remember, once Anthony's done with his homework it's time for dinner."
Asphodele nodded her head, jumping up and down like a hyperactive monkey. He came in, pieces of broken glass on his hands, cuts and bruises everywhere. Krystyna froze into shock at once.
"Holy crap, Jared, what the hell happened!?" She looked into his eyes with the deepest concern.
"Nah, it's okay Krys. Me and Asper were just involved in a really epic game of hide and seek is all."
His fingers turned on the tap of the sink. Krystyna got out of the kitchen hurridley and went to get the first aid kit. After washing his hands throughly, he edged towards Asphodele. The little girl was staring intently outside at her best friend, Anthony who was doing his homework. Her jade green eyes made note of every movement he made, every breath he took. She twirled a strand of her dark brown hair around her fingertips.
"Uh, hello, earth to Asper", he said in a flat voice. He did not like his nephew gaining her attention in any way.
"Let's play a game." He got her attention now. Her sparkling jade eyes looked at him.
"What kind of game?", she replied, her voice filled with wonder. His lips stretched into a small smirk.
"I'm glad you asked." His tone was dangerously dark. He edged closer towards her. She locked her fingers together, feeling slightly uncomfortable. He placed a kiss down her neck. An uncomfortable feeling took over her body. He was about to kiss her ear when, with all her strength she could manage, she pushed him off.
"Stop it..." she spoke in a wobbly voice. Her mother came in with a first aid kit in hand. She glanced at her daughter, knowing that something happened while she was gone.
"Anything the matter, darlin'?" Asphodele shook her head. "N-Nothing mom", she managed to stutter. Krystyna glanced at her daughter for a while longer, then said:"Okay, well, dinner's ready." She shot a look at him. He shrugged.
That night, she curled up in her sheets. She felt slightly uncomfortable about what had happened to her today. But she had no idea what was in store later.
