Broken

I'm not dumb. I wasn't then either. I had been with her as her best friend through everything life threw it at her. And let me tell you, life threw a lot at her. She handled it all like a champ, but I knew she was broken. I knew she probably would be for a long time. And I knew that she'd get scared I'd leave. I just had to find a way to prove to her that I wouldn't. I didn't know how I was going to do it, and I knew time was probably the only thing that could. So I stayed. I stayed with her. I used my words to reassure her that I wasnt going anywhere when she got scared in the middle of the night. She'd message me, and we'd talk until one of us or both of us couldn't stay awake anymore.
She had a lot of bad dreams about me. Ones where I abused her and ones where I just simply left. Ones where I'd look at her and just yell, or tell her I hated her voice when she was singing.
She dreamed that I was doing the things her exes would do to her. It hurt me to know that she was that scared that I'd turn out like one of them. She trusted me, yes. It's just that, sometimes she was just too broken to think she could keep me around. She thought I'd get tired of her.
Little did she know, she was the light at the end of my tunnel and she's the reason I was and still am alive. There was no possibility I'd get tired of her.

I knew you probably thought this was going to be a wonderful love story with a bad ending, because that's how these things usually are. But let me assure you. That, my friend, is completely wrong. This is the tale of a love which was never lost or forgotten. We were and still are two imperfect hearts joined together to create a perfect love story.
And let me tell you, this isn't even close to the end. There are minimal bumps. But buckle your seatbelts and get ready for the greatest love story in the universe. I love this girl.
