Rebel and I rushed down to the police station. Lane let me borrow his bike to make the trip faster.
Once we got there we parked our bikes and walked inside. There I saw a meek older women working at the counter.
Rebel stepped up for me.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. O'Neil please"
A tall lean man walked out. He had mean looking features his mouth seemed to be permanently a frown.
"This way please"
His voice was deep and authoritative. We did as we were told.
We walked down a cement hallway the paint chipped every now and then. We turned a corner and entered a room that... How do I put it...IT WAS A MESS!!
The officer pushed some trash of his desk and said.
"Please excuse the mess. Take a seat"
We did.
"Miss O'Neil your parents have been convicted of stealing. Usually stealing wouldn't be much of a charge but upon further look your parents have been found guilty of many different crimes, even a murder"
I didn't speak. I couldn't. Rebel placed his hand on mine and intertwined our fingers.
"I'm sorry but your parents have a life in prison"
My mouth hung dry. My heart thumping faster and faster so fast I was afraid it would thump out of my chest and hit the officer in the face.
"I see" was all I said.We've contacted some family members. Unfortunately your grandmother can only take your brother she can't pay for two children"
My breathing hitched. I didn't want to go to an orphanage. Ok maybe it would be cool and I'd be the next Annie. As much as I wanted to sing about my 'hard knock life' I was terrified, and Rebel could sense it. He spoke up for me.
"She can stay with me"
I looked at him suprise written all over my face. He returned with a smile.
"Ok that settles it then, would you like to see your parents?"
I hesitated but eventually I nodded yes. He took us down to the cells. Tens of prisoners screaming to let them out. Screaming they didn't do it or 'I'll kill you'. They disgust me and now so do my parents.
Rebel squeezed my hand. I forgot about him. I turned and smiled. My smile soon faded upon seeing my lowly parents.
"Oh hello darling come to take mommy and daddy out of this hellhole"
Her voice.
Piercing.
Annoying.
I hated her. She did this to herself she brought hell upon me and now...I'm finally free. I smiled.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SMILING AT!" My father screeched reaching through the bars to try and hit me. Too bad for him I was too far away. It's sad really seeing them like this. Locked up, no privileges, ignored. Just like I was with them.
I turned around put my arms behind my back turned my head and said.
"Good bye "
And started walking.The way home was silent. 'Home' it really is my home now.
"Hey Bella, where do you want to sleep?"I laughed. Wherever you want me to. His face turned red. I laughed harder.
"Not that way pervert!" He blushed harder. Causing me to laugh harder. Too bad I'm not that good at riding a bike. Or else I wouldn't have fallen off laughing. I layers on the road still laughing. Rebel got off immediately and helped me. I was still laughing.
"Jeez Bella are you drunk?" He said with a huge smile.
"Maybe" this caused him to laugh.
~~~SPLASH~~~
It was quick and stealthy. Rebel stood there in shock. Water dripping from his blond locks. I laughed harder but this time I ended up soaking. Causing Rebel to laugh. I scoped out who did it. Lane.
I spotted him up in a tree. I whispered to Rebel.
"You go one way I'll go the other" I pointed to the tree. He nodded. We snuck up behind him. Lane looked back to where we were once standing. He stood up confused.
"BOO!!"
Rebel and I yelled in unison.
"AHHHHHH!"
He fell out of the tree and we jumped on him. We started tickling him. He laughed uncontrollably. However he was a year ahead of us and much stronger. He flipped us both over and started ticking us.
"DINNER!!" Rebels dad yelled. Well I guess he's my new parent.
