Part 1
I walked into my new school, with my new jeans, new shoes, and my new shirt. I had just moved to Texas from my old home in New York. This was my chance to start over. Things hadn't gone too well for me in New York. In school in 8th grade, there had been a shooting. I was one of the witnesses. I was questioned thoroughly and advised i move out of the area. My mother decided to take that to heart and multiply it. So here we are.
I walked in with my head held high. I had an odd feeling of confidence. I never usually did. I guess I had decided that I didn't want to be that shy girl in the corner anymore. I wanted to stand out. I hated being ignored. Although it had been very hard to stand out in a place like New York. I was hoping in a small town like Euless, Texas I may at least catch someone's attention.
As I pulled up to my new school I stopped. This school was huge. Like, the biggest school I had ever seen. It looked like a small college more than a high school.
I parked the car and walked up the front steps. I walked into the front office to see a lady with a mess of curly blond hair atop her head, a long pointy nose, a green jacket and long, red nails which scrambled furiously across her keyboard. "I'll be right with you, sweet heart," she said.
After a few minutes, her eyes shot up too look at me. "Yes, darling, can I help you?" she asked in a high pitched voice.
"Yes, ma'am. I'm a new student and I need my schedule please." I said.
"Name?"
"Alexis Lancaster." Her eyes were then glued to the screen for another 5 minutes as her fingers sped across the keys.
"Ah. Yes. Here you are." she said handing me a piece of paper. As I started to walk out the door she called me back. "Oh, and welcome to Trinity High School." she said with a grin.
"Thank you." I said with a warm smile and turned out of the office. I looked down at my new schedule to find my locker number. Number 476. Okay, that shouldn't be too hard..I say to myself as I start roaming the halls. It actually didn't take long to find. As I was dumping all the school books I had received over the summer into my locker, I heard someone saying my name.
"Hey, Alexis." I turned around to see a boy about my height, with curly brown hair, brown eyes, and braces. He was wearing a loose white t-shirt, ripped jeans and a black pair of converse. "My name is Jake. I was in the office when you told the receptionist your name."
"Oh. Hi." I said, not sure what to respond. He didn't seem like the type to cause much trouble.
"What class do you have first period?" He asked.
"Ummm...." I said fumbling for my schedule. "Biology with Mrs. Peterson."
"Hey! I have the same class. You want to walk together?" He asked with a touch of excitement in his eyes.
"Sure." I said. Why not? He seemed nice enough. We walked down the hall just talking about each other. He talked about his little sister and I talked about New York. Then I saw him. Down the hall. The most gorgeous thing I had ever seen in my entire life. From his blond hair that swished across his forehead, to his straight pearly white teeth, to his muscular body, he was the most gorgeous creature on this earth.
"Who is THAT?" I say as my eyes pop out of my head.
"Oh." Jake said, kind of disappointed. "That's Collin Brookshire. He's a senior. He's the starting QB for the football team. We've won every game ever since he started playing."
"Wow..." I said. I wouldn't be surprised if drool had been dribbling out of my mouth. Collin then looked down the hall in my direction. My face went red as I rushed away.
"Smooooth." Jake says with a smile. He laughed a little.
"Shut up." I say and hit him in the arm. He still continued to laugh as we walked to Mrs. Peterson's room. The bell rang just as we walked in. Everyone was sitting on the lab stools.
"Good morning, class," said, I was assuming Mrs. Peterson as she walked into the room. She was a good looking woman, although she looked very business-like. She had her dark, brown hair pinned up in a tight bun on her head. She wore a pair of rectangular glasses at the end of her nose and her black high heels clicked on the tile every time she took a step.
"I see you all took the liberty of choosing your own seats, but i arrange the seating chart alphabetically." A loud groan erupted from the class. "Nancy Armstrong and Jacie Boulevard," she said pointing at the first lab table. And that's how she went on. "Alexis Lancaster and Jake Lenston." I saw his face light up as he heard his name called. As the rest of the class was called i sat there and thought about that beautiful person I had seen in the hallway. When the bell rang I was relieved. I looked at my schedule to see I had Geometry next.
"Well, I'll see you at lunch Alex, I have Geography." Jake said as he walked away.
The rest of the morning seemed to drag on. i couldn't wait until lunch.
