I let out a scream as a hand closed itself over my mouth, but a muffled noise was all that left me. I struggled to get away from the hand but another two hands grabbed me by my shoulders, hauled me over the back of the sofa and slammed me onto the hard floor, winding me.
I clutched my stomach as I tried to get some air into my lungs. Meanwhile, I was defenceless. Through blurred vision, I could see two figure stood over me, dressed in black head to toe. I expected their faces to be covered but they weren't.
Suddenly, they grabbed me again, and dragged me to my feet. I was still struggling to breathe, when one of them brought over a chair from the kitchen table, and placed it in the middle of the living room, facing the front door. The man still holding me forced me over to it, and when I refused to sit, he kicked the back of knee, causing me to collapse onto the chair. They worked quickly, tying me to the chair with a lengthy piece of rope. My hands were tied down to the arms rests on either side of me.
My vision had cleared by now and I could make out the faces. The man currently in front of me, kneeling down, tying my legs and feet, was bald. And his whole head was tattooed, apart from his face, and it disappeared down his neck beneath his clothes. He also had a nose ring, and several studs in his left ear. His expression wasn't one I felt at ease with. It was set in an angry way, eyebrows drawn together.
When he looked up, his eyes glared back at me.
"You aren't screaming?"
I looked right back at him.
"Seemed pretty pointless. You'd easily shut me up again, probably by winding me again and I'd rather not suffocate today, if that's alright with you?"
I surprised myself at how bold I was being. Was I trying to get myself killed? Because antagonising them was going to do exactly that.
Well done, Shay. I mentally applauded myself.
"Oi – Simon, we've got a cheeky one here, don't we?"
The man who was behind me came round into view – he didn't look much different to Guy Number 1, except he had a lot more hair, black, and tied into a ponytail.
"Indeed we do, Ray. You think we should teach her lesson?"
Ah, so Guy Number 1 was called Ray.
That was when Ray drew a knife. My heart went into over drive. I felt sick.
Ray bent down, leaning in close to my face, making me cringe from the smell of his breath.
"I think we should, Simon. Clearly Jace isn't doing a good job of keeping her in line"
Simon shook his head and tutted.
"Hmmm...what shall we do with you? Something that will make Jace's head spin when he returns home to find you? I don't have a fucking clue what he sees in you though. What's so special about you? Not once has he been with a girl" He laughed harshly. "I mean, he's been with his fair share, don't get me wrong. But they never saw the inside of this apartment, let alone his bed, which only means he likes a quick fuck. Don't blame him, to be honest. But what about you? You're clearly not a quick fuck"
He was silent. Was he expecting a response?
"Look – you're right, there's nothing special about me. I'm only here because he's protecting me, after you left those notes in my apartment and outside the school"
"Ah that was the crafty work of our friend, James. Sneaky fella', he is. But, whether you know it or not, you definitely mean something to him. He's never brought a girl up here before – we know because we watch him - but he saves your ass, twice, and then suddenly brings you here. You definitely mean something, babe"
