Students should be allowed to have cell phones in school because many students use their cell phones for school work or educational purposes, cell phones are good in case of an emergency, and having to keep a cell phone safe teaches kids responsibility.

Lots of kids use their cell phones for school! It is good for them to be able to search things that they are asked to. In fact, in one of my own classes, my teacher asks the kids with phones to search this or that or whatever. I know some kids who have phones only so that they can help them learn things! Since phones also have calculators and calendars (for assignment due dates) and other things along those lines, cell phones are very helpful in school. Some teachers worry that they will search other things, but most students I know only get phones out if they are allowed to.

It is good to have a phone in case of emergency or getting to school "Cell phones are important to have when a parent gets stuck in traffic or when a student misses the bus home," says Eric Perry, 14, of New York City. Also, what if something happened, if say, the school burned down. It would be very helpful if the kids could call their own parents to come and pick them up (unless, of course, they were hurt, then they'd go to the emergency room). Someone on www.debate.org said, "In many cases, a kid should have a phone. They would be able to contact their parents in case of an emergency. They would also be able to tell you if they have detention or going to a friend's house,". Many people say there aren't enough emergencies that the kids would actually need the phones. But what about when there is an emergency? Wouldn't you want your child to have a way to get a hold of you fast? Personally, I would.

Keeping a cell phone safe throughout the school day and at home teaches the students responsibility. Someone on www.debate.org says, "We are preparing students for adult life; we should therefore allow them to use the tools that they will be using in their adult life,". That is very true. Many jobs need a phone, so why not let the kids know how to use them responsibly. I think that if students are taught to keep their phones safe now, they will be able to quickly use them when they are older.

In conclusion, kids should be allowed to have cell phones in school because they can use them for schoolwork, have them in case of an emergency, and learn responsibility.
