It was darker than night, darker than her sins. She felt trapped in this dark place as it was cramped and cold against her skin. She stretched her hand out in front of herself but there was something there blocking her.
"Tsk a casket." She whispered then with eyes gleaming red she pushed on the lid forcing it away. On the other side of the dust that kicked up, someone stood awaiting her. Her long thin but strangely smooth skinned fingers curled around the edge of the sarcoffigi as she lifted herself to a sitting position.
"Your highness after 80 years you have finally awoken from your slumber." The finely dressed man bowed to her. The way he was dressed he may have been an old timely butler perhaps.
"James?" She yawned and stretched "has it been 80 years already?" The room was highly decorated with real satin and black roses that may have use to be red but faded.
"Your highness Violet you should feed before we go back to the castle, everyone will be pleased to see you again and you wouldn't want to be looking thin and frail." He urged her as she swung her legs over the edge of the marble casket, white hair flowed around her shoulders long and straight. Her pale complexion made her seem unreal as if she were a carved statue of beauty. She was quite short and frighteningly thin almost like a doll.
"I could use some blood right about now anyways, fine I will hunt but you must leave for me to hunt properly. Don't think I'm doing this because I'm listening to you I'm just hungry. I will meet you back at the castle gates." She smiled at him softly but her eyes betrayed her, they gave the impression of repulsion at the word feeding.
"As you wish your highness." He bowed again then turned and left. It became silent again in the open chamber. The long red gown and white sash tied in a big bow behind her seemed rather fantasy for her taste, though when she looked at her reflection she was shocked to find that the frilly dress quite suit her figure.
"Never aging or growing old..." She touched her lips. "I will create yet another sin on my part." She turned to go, the wooden door came into view then. Her bare feet made no noise as she walked to the one thing that blocked her from the outside world.
"To hunt is to kill... If it is fate then it will happen, other wise humans are such fleeting beings." She mumbled to herself as she took her first step onto the wet grass.
She ran along the roof tops lighter than a feather upon flight. She stopped at the edge of a roof that led to an alley. She could hear the soft, tat tat tat of boots on pavement. They seemed hurried but not frantic.
A boy crossed the path of the road his orangish red hair seemed to pull her in though he didn't know. She was there watching him, and when he passed below her she dropped behind him. her feet made a faint scraping sound as the small pebbles scooted beneath her weight. Before he could run or turn to see her she snatched him into her arms holding him close and tight.
"What?! Let go of me!" The boy shouted she tilted his head to her.
"Your hair is the color of blood," her breath grazing his neck gently. "tonight you are mine I will give you a chance to escape me, but I will count down you run away but once you are out of time, I am coming after you." Her hair twirling in the breeze made her look like a fallen angel. she let go of the boy, and He stared at her horrified.
"you have two minutes now run." The boy took off as Violet set a timer on her watch. He ran as fast as he could and she stood completely still untill the timer sounded. She ran faster than lightning at him.
"you're mine." She said outstretching her arms to him.
"leave me alone!" The boy screamed out as he stumbled down the alley. He ran along trying to outdistance her, but she was on him before he had a chance.
"boy there is one thing that distances me from my kind. I don't hunt for the kill, I hunt to survive... I don't Kill my prey." She whispered in his ear.
"let me go!" The boy in her arms frantic when caught and held by Violet. "Prey?!" This was the response to her, as the words began sinking in that she was something nonhuman.
"Shh it's ok." She hugged him and he stopped struggling so much.
"when I saw you I could see the loneliness in your eyes, the pain you have endured alone. Come with me and you will never be alone again." She held him close. Her words soothing, the boy finally calm down.
"all right..." His only word when replying. The word spoken dragging up painful memories. She moved closer to his neck then bit down but not hard.
"Why me?" The boy asked gasping as she bit into his throat, sighing, arms wrapping around her. She stopped drinking his blood.
"I can fill the void in your heart come with me." The moon shines bright behind her as she wiped the blood from her chin. She looked majestic with her glowing red eyes in the shadow that crossed half of her face. She offered the boy her hand
"become my loyal companion for all time?" She asked
"do I have a choice?" The boys eyes meeting violets for the first time without fear.
"it's your choice." she smiled sweetly at him "if you come with me I can make you immortal and I can teach you how to use your soon to come powers if... you choose this path. If you choose not to I shall leave you be on your mortal route to life"
He took her hand without hesitancy. her smile, there was something luring about it "I can't chose something like this so suddenly is it ok if I come with you as a human for the time and decide if I want to stay human or be immortal?"
"Of course shiki as long as your happy." She held his hand in both of hers smiling then she hugged him one more time.
"Shiki? That's not my name.." He looked at her strangely.
"Oh don't mind that it's your name now, there once was a warrior that worked as the royal family's guard he was so loyal and brave I though it would suit you well. Do you not like it?" She tilted her head to the side something cold and wet hit her arm and she looked up. "Oh it's beginning to rain. We better get going if we don't want to get caught in the down pour."
"Ok you lead the way." She began to walk then remembered that for a human it would be to far away and with her pace he wouldn't be able to keep up.
"Hold tight to me shiki we are going to teleport." His eyes widen and he held fast to her waist. She touched the necklace she wore that had 12 different stones engraved into it. The gems began to glow as the scene around them melted away into darkness, but then a large castle surrounded by a tall golden fence came into view. Shiki's jaw dropped in awe.
"This place is amazing and huge!" He craned his neck just to see the top of the towers made from what looked to be marble.
"Oh? You like it?" She chuckled at his enthusiasm "well that's good because you will be living here from now on. Do you like that?" He couldn't speak all he could do was nod.
