Something's missing

Hanna and Emily were living an extremely domesticated lifestyle. Emily was picking up dry cleaning and cooking three days a week while Hanna made breakfast and packed lunches. Maybe even dinner and a sexy note for those days Emily had 24 hour residency shifts. For all of their hugs and kisses and synchronization, neither of them could knock the feeling that something was missing.

As Emily flicked through the television channels on her rare off day, she thought it was driving her crazy. What was her mind or her body pushing her towards? Of all her disaster of relationships she had never been happier. Hanna was bubbly yet not so over the top you wanted to push her off a rooftop. She was sweet but not so sweet she was naïve and let people take advantage of her. Hanna was the perfect girlfriend.

She was warm and affectionate but also gave Emily the space she needed. It was a great balance. A happy relationship so why was Emily sitting on her sofa mid afternoon trying to pinpoint what was so very wrong in her life? She was becoming very restless when all she could name were things that for once going right.

Exasperated Emily gave in and dialed her favorite braniac. Emily had a way of wanting to remain on the blue pill side of things for those who saw the Matrix. If not find that rock you've been hiding under! Emily prefers to not know certain things. Especially if they will trouble her or offset the balance of her day to day life. Spencer Jill Hastings is having none of that!

Emily: Hello Spence! (After she let the phone ring until voicemail almost caught it).

Spencer: Yes. Hi Em. How is life treating you in New York City?

Emily: Why don't you come for a visit and find out?

Spencer: I would Em if I could. Seriously I could use a vacation.

Emily: Well I'm using my first off day in over a month to call you so clear some time for me. I'll even pay by the hour.

Spencer: Okay. This sounds serious. What's wrong Em?

Emily: Hanna and I are doing great. She has this new designer she is working for. She is letting her put a few of her own pieces in the show. That's just career wise. We are actually getting our relationship side together. She Ying's and I'll Yang. But something is off. It's not really feeling right. Like I'm missing something. I don't know what though.

Spencer: Are you sick? It might be a medical issue. Or all the trauma we went through, try seeing a psychiatrist.

Emily: Naw. I don't think it's anything like that but it wouldn't hurt to try those I guess.

Spencer: Maybe you just miss me? Or all of us hanging out together. We were pretty close.

Emily: Which is why you should visit! It's your turn. Han and I both have spent weekends with you in D.C.

Spencer: I know. I know. I'll figure something out. I'm sorry I couldn't help Em-

Emily: But you have to go! I know. Thanks for answering the phone.

Spencer: Thanks for calling.

After Spencer hung up Emily thought about Spencer's suggestions. Maybe she did need to see a shrink. Why else would she be feeling like this while she was in a happy and healthy relationship for the first time. Hanna was never on drugs, never tried to drown her, never was married, never tried to manipulate her. She just always was the one to look after her and try and make her feel safe. Emily thought to herself out loud: So what's my problem.

Hanna: First off that vest with no bra and those sweats! That's a major problem.

Emily laughed: When did you get home?

Hanna bent down toward the couch and pecked Emily on the lips.

Hanna: Just in time to hear you talking to yourself. You going to respond as well?

Emily threw a pillow at Hanna.

Hanna: Just because they're throw pillows..

Hanna bent down picking the pillow off of the floor then hit Emily with it. They continued with their juvenile theatrics until they had to both catch their breath from laughing so hard.

Emily: Hey. I want to ask you something but I need for you not to take it the wrong way and go all Hanna on me.

Hanna: Go all Hanna?

Emily: Yes. Definition if located in a dictionary would be get extra confrontational, over dramatic and start to blame yourself.

Hanna: Wow! Are you serious right now? We just got through playing around and haven't had an argument in months.

Emily: I know. I love it. I love you. I just wanted to make sure you knew that first before the balance is disrupted.

Hanna: Okay. I love you too. I'm calm and I'm listening.

Emily: I have this feeling. I don't know what's causing it. I never been in a relationship like this before. It's like everything is perfect. I couldn't imagine myself in a better situation.

Hanna: but?

Emily sighs: but I feel as if something is missing. It's so weird. I don't know what it is.

Hanna: Alison.

Emily: What?! I promise Hanna. I haven't thought of her. I haven't called her not once since her visit.

Hanna: I believe you. It's why your so ... Emily. Alison is the only one who can make that feeling go away. I have to go to Milan Italy. You have to work. Alison is free for the summer. Invite her here. Domesticate. Not in our bed. But you won't be happy until you see her.

Emily: No Hanna. Your wrong. I'm going to take off work and we are going to Milan!

Hanna: No way. Then your residency gets pushed back or you lose your spot. It's bad enough you moved to New York for me. Get you some Alison and you should be good as new when I get back.

Emily: How can you just give me to another woman? I'd crack every bone in a guy's body if he got with in 20 feet of you.

Hanna: Not any woman. Just Ali. I'm no dummy. I know how you feel about her. How you've felt about her. Hell even how you'll always feel about her. We can deny it all we want or we can just start to accept it and embrace it.

Emily: Your lips say that but I've worked too hard to prove that I'm in love with you Hanna. Alison or no one is going to demolish that. You go do your thing in Milan. I'll be right here until you return.

Hanna: Okay. But honestly, I think you and Alison need to see each other. Think about it.

Emily did just that but even if she were to agree with Hanna she was too stubborn to do anything about it.
