Scott was hired as the new 3rd-floor librarian. Being 2nd floor staff, I finagled every errand I could that would take me to the 3rd. But shortly, I realized it was futile: every time I saw Scott, or attempted a conversation, he was shamelessly focused on his phone, just as he'd been on the first day we met. In fact, the words he'd spoken on his first day were the most he'd ever spoken to me. Not so much as a 'Good morning, Grace!', since.
With my mousy brown hair, old-lady glasses, dowdy-bookish wardrobe, and aversion to makeup, I could understand how I would be deemed not 'attractive enough' for a man like him to notice.
Maybe I should give up.
