The Start of a New Me

It was the winter of 1984 and I was freezing. I was only seventeen years old when my mom was slaughtered and my dad was repeatedly shot in the head....I know this seems bad, but something happened to me.
I lost the most important people in my life and not to mention how I'm a survivor of RAPE. Yes, I said it. I was barely alive, but I was still breathing. Luckily our neighbors called the cops, because I don't know how I would have had enough strength to even stand up.
I don't remember much after that, but I do remember the medics zipping up two white body bags faintly covered in red. I also remember the looks on my neighbors faces. I could just imagine them saying
"Oh, that poor girl." "She would've been better off dead." "To an orphanage she'll go."
Then there were sounds of beeping and people talking. It was the hospital. The hospital gown flowed down to my knees as I went to the bathroom. It hurt to go, but then I remembered, not to even mention how many bruises there were.
I sat and cried for as long as I could recall. My mom. Dad. All dead. I wished I could have went back before it all happened, but I knew I couldn't.
You see, at this point, I didn't have any reason to live until I heard a knock on the hospital door. It was Steven. (Man, how much I love that boy.) His black hair spiked in the front and his eyes sparkled as he walked through the door.
"Hello cutie he said. Do you know where I can find my girlfriend?"
"I don't know, maybe your looking at her." I replied. We laughed as we hugged each other and he kissed me on the cheek.
"How you feeling?" he asked.
"Good I guess, but it's still hard to believe." I said with a frown.
"I know, but I'm always here for you Steven smiles at me. You know that." I blush. (Geez this boy makes me feel so warm inside!)
The doctor comes in and tells us everything is ok now, and we could go home. Steven goes to warm the car up while I get dressed into my normal clothes and get all of my things ready. I get all my paperwork from the front desk and head outside toward the parking lot.
He is already holding the door open for me. (Such a gentleman!) I get in and buckle up. Steven gets in to. "Where do u want to go?" he questioned.
"I don't know if I can handle going back home so...I answered. Can we go to your place?"
"Say no more!" he kissed me and we were off.
We arrived at Creakmore Ave on 32nd street and pulled into his driveway. He got out and opened my door for me. He unlocked his front door and we walked in. He took my things toward the bedroom to put them away. I walked to the kitchen to make a drink then went and sat on the couch in the living room. Steven came back and sat by me.
I reached for the remote and tired on the news. My body froze when I realized what the anchorman was talking about. I hear my name...my mom...dad...everything about what had happened. Steven quickly grabs the remote and turns the tv off. He hugs me as I sit there crying my eyes out. "If you think about it, he says. This is the start of a new you." I smile as he smiles back, wiping tears away from my eyes.
