The building contest was over. The Ocelots had won. I wanted to beat Lukas and his gang of jerks' winning streak once and for all, but I couldn't. Axel and Olivia went with me to find Reuben, leaving our fireworks dispenser burning to shambles.
I couldn't believe it. I should've went alone to find Reuben myself so that Axel and Olivia could save the build from burning. My thoughts were then interrupted by footsteps walking behind me. I turned around to see... the Ocelots. I held Reuben tight as Olivia, Axel and I took a step back.
"Hey, geek!" Aiden said menacingly. "What's wrong with your arm? Got a cut that never faded for TEN YEARS?"
"It's none of your business." I looked away from Aiden.
Lukas held his wrist tightly as he glanced away from me. I was crying inside, thinking he had forgotten about me. It was only then that I heard a ripping sound.
My bandage hiding my friendship bracelet was torn off by Aiden. I covered it as best as I could. Lukas looked like he had seen a ghost. Did he remember anything about our childhood? He ran straight to me and looked at the bracelet. Gill wanted to know what Lukas was hiding, so he sneaked up behind Lukas and forcefully rolled Lukas's right sleeve up, revealing the friendship bracelet I made for him. I couldn't believe my eyes. He didn't take that bracelet off? I thought he disposed of it! I gasped in shock.
"What. The. Heck." Maya said in anger, walking towards me and shoving me away. "What connection do YOU have with Lukas, nerd?! He's MINE!"
"I never said I liked you, Maya." Lukas looked mad. He pushed Maya away from him, causing Maya to fall onto the cobblestone.
Aiden shoved me away and attempted to take out my bracelet.
He failed.
He tried again.
He failed again.
"UGH! This is pointless! When did you get those stupid wristbands, bracelets, whatever?!" Aiden snarled at me and Lukas.
Lukas and I didn't respond. We were agitated, frightened and nervous.
"Jesse? Did you know Lukas in the past?" Olivia asked.
"Jesse, hurry up! We're waiting!" Axel pressured me.
After lots of pressuring, I had enough and screamed in sadness and rage.
"AAAAAH!!!" I covered my ears. "I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT! DO YOU ALL HEAR ME?!"
I ran into the nearby forest, feeling tears welling up in my eyes.
I finally reached a log, feeling pooped out. I sat down and took a rest. There was a campfire there, I was lucky... I placed my hand down to feel another hand below mine. I immediately pulled my hand away and looked up to see Lukas staring at me, and he was... smiling?
"So, you didn't dispose of the bracelet I made you." Lukas chuckled. "I honestly thought you did."
"I thought you disposed of the bracelet I made you too..." My voice broke. "I... I-I..."
I started crying on Lukas's shoulder. It reminded me of something in the past. I did that before when... when my parents went missing. Lukas and his mother were kind-hearted enough to let me stay over for the next few days.
Sadly, I had to move out of the village since Lukas's mom didn't approve of Lukas having a girl sleep around. I was distraught. I had to go away from my only friend.
"Jesse." Lukas pulled me away for a moment. "I have something to tell you."
I listened.
"I never got the chance to tell you, but..." Lukas took a deep breath. "I like you, not as friends but... more than friends."
These words hit me like a sledgehammer. Lukas liked me?! Not as friends, but he LIKE likes me?
"How long have you-" My sentence was cut off.
"For fifteen years, I never wanted to admit my love for you." Lukas strolled around the area near the campfire. "Now that we're twenty-two this year, I can finally do this."
"Do wh-"
A pair of lips pressed against mine. It was Lukas and he was... actually kissing me. I was shocked, but I kissed back. I pulled away to catch my breath.
"So, we're pretty much official?" I asked calmly.
"Yep." Lukas gave me a soft smile. "We are."
I smiled as he flung his arm around my shoulder.
We discussed on whether to tell everyone else and we came to an agreement. We decided to tell the others but we knew not alot of people would be too pleased.
Lukas and I walked out of the forest and told everyone the news.
"Guys, we have something to say." Lukas said.
"We're..." I took a deep breath. "...an official couple."
Olivia squealed like a weenie, Reuben hopped around happily and Petra, who came out of nowhere, smiled proudly at me. The others weren't too pleased, especially Axel and Maya. Looks like our prediction was right.
Well. After twelve years of being separated, Lukas and I are finally united again.
It wasn't everlasting friendship this time.
But everlasting love.
