I heard heard foots ascending up the steps, she stood in my doorway holding it shaking her head. I kissed her on the cheek, "You are the best, I cannot show up to this preppy school out of uniform. "Sweetie," she began, "you are brilliant and anyone who treats you any differently because of your background isn't worth the time."
I rolled my eyes, "Yes mommy, I know, I know.
Tying my tie I walk pass my mom giving her a kiss on the cheek as I leave, "I need to hurry, I can't be late."
"At least grab some fruit to ea-"
I sighed cutting her off, "I will, I will," I grab an apple as I leave an yell, "Love ya" as I close the door.
I step outside and look around at the abandoned, rugged, graffiti covered buildings, the trash that litters the side walks, and listen to the dogs barking in the distance. I'm sure no one has come in this neighborhood dressed as preppy as I am.
So lost in thought I hardly heard my friend Dianne yelling my name.
I turned around, "Hey girl"
