I jolted upright, my body drenched in tears and sweat, and looked around the room frantically.
"What the hell...?"
Nothing had changed. the room was exactly the same as it had been before I fell asleep. I could have sworn that the sound woke me up. Maybe it was just all in my dream.
My dream.
My mother.
I wish I could have heard her soft voice for just a little longer. Just then, a loud CLANK echoed through the room. The door, It was being unlocked. But why? And who was unlocking it? There were so many questions buzzing through my brain that I didn't realize I was standing until my eyes met the doll sitting by the door.
"Let's go!" It's voice echoed.
"How the- Who unlocked the door?"
"Why, the gatekeeper of course. He controls every entrance and exit here."
"How does he know me?"
"He's the one who saved you."
"Why though?"
At that moment the doll went silent. Too many questions I guess. I guess I'll just have to weed the answers out myself as we go along.
I picked up the doll and peered around the bulky doorframe. Left. Right. Left. Right. There was no sound. Nothing there. Who was the gatekeeper anyways? That's where I need to go. I need to find the gatekeeper.
"Well, we're not going to find him standing here!"
The doll spoke boastfully from my arm.
"Yeah, Yeah. But, I don't know where to go."
"Just get lost. Don't think about where you're going. Just go."
"WHAT?! Why the hell would I do that? I'd only get myself lost or even killed!"
No response came from the doll that time.
"Not answering, huh?"
I looked out into the hallway. Left? Or right?
Don't think. Just go.
Left. I turned the corner and began making my way down the dimmed hallway.
