I wake up and I'm surprised to find that I actually fell asleep last night.
I roll over and check the clock. My eyes widen as I realize the time. It's 5:00... The airport is an hour away.
Hey, maybe I'll miss my flight. That would be just dandy.
I fling my legs over the side of my bed and walk out to the hallway and towards my moms room.
" Mom? Mom? Mom!" I shake her shoulder, attempting to wake her up.
" Wh-what?"
" We need to get going!"
" Oh. Let me just hop in the shower." She begins to get out of bed.
" There's no time! Unless you want to miss our flight? Which I wouldn't mind."
" Fine. I'll just shower when we get to the hotel. But don't complain when your stuck sitting next to a stinky mess for the whole flight."
I roll my eyes at her and walk back to my room.
I dig through my clothing, attempting to find something comfy to wear. Lucky for me the only type of clothing that I have is 'comfy' clothing. I pick out my green "Fuck Cancer" shirt and some Capri sweats. I pull my long hair into a bun, and add a black headband.
" Are you ready honey?" My mom pokes her head around my door.
" Yeah. Let me just grab my stuff." I walk over to my suitcase and zip it shut. I grab the side handle and heave it up.
" Here. Let me help you." Mom moves to grab my suitcase.
I move it out of her grasp, " I've got it mom. Don't worry." I smile at her and move past her and out my bedroom door, towards the stairs.
Everybody always assumes that I need help with everything because of my cancer. It got old really fast. I obviously can still do things. I might need help with some stuff but not everything, especially carrying a suitcase.
I make my way to the front door and set my suitcase down.
" Mom?!" I shout up the stairs.
" I'm coming."
" You know we could still miss our flight!"
" Oh, keep quiet!" She yells at me as she finally meets me at the door.
I roll my eyes at her once more and open the door. I pick my suitcase up and lug it towards the tiny Jetta.
The car beeps as mom unlocks it. I pop the trunk open and happily fling my suitcase inside.
I climb into the passenger seat and patiently wait for my mom.
" Are you sure you want to go?" Mom asks as she climbs into the front, staring ahead at our driveway.
" Yes! Now can we go before I change my mind?"
" Ok! Just making sure you weren't backing out!"
" Now that you mention it..." I tease her, causing her to step on the gas and pull out of the driveway.
I plop down in the airplane seat. I fought for my window seat and I'm proud of it.
I'm itching to pull out my laptop and camera to edit photos, but I can't.
" Honey are you ok?" My mom asks as she takes her seat next to me.
" Yeah I'm fine. Just... Anxious." I flash her a fake smile and turn back to the window.
" Ladies and Gentleman, we are getting ready to take off. So please take your seats and buckle your seat belts. Thank you." The pilot says over the intercom.
I look down and buckle my seatbelt. They always take forever to actually start up the plane, so I'm happy when they start taking off only a minute after the announcement.
I begin to get pushed to the back of my seat as the plane goes down the runway and picks up speed. I look out the window and begin to see the plane lift off the ground.
Towards Los Angeles.
Towards those obnoxious boys.
