END OF EARTH

The Midnight Shift

Barry's POV

It had been like 5 hours since me and Bailey had a break, so we decided to go to the forest to get some rest. I told Bailey that we would have to take turns looking out for each other, while the other got some rest. I took the first shift because I wanted Bailey to get a break. 

"Each person gets a hour of lookout," I told Bailey.  "Now you get some rest."

"Ok," she responded.

I thought it would take a long time for Bailey to go to sleep, but 10 minutes into the shift, she was asleep. To be a smart person, I surrounded sticks and dry leaves around the tree just in case somebody comes because I am going to doze off at least one time during my shift. 

When time passed, I put my hand in my pocket, searching for my phone. When I didn't feel it, I panicked. 

"Oh I forgot, It's the end of the world," I said to myself

I guess I was so used to going home and staying on my phone until like 12:00, which I thought was the time at this point. I just took a really good guess. 

During the last minutes of my shift, I looked at Bailey. She was really balled up under the leaves, but for some reason the wind was blowing to hard, so the leaves blew off. When the leaves blew off, I saw that she was getting chill bumps, so I took off my jacket and put it on her substituting for a cover. After I saw that she was comfortable, I decided that I would make my shift longer so she could enjoy  some rest, but I knew that I needed some rest too. I put my arms in my shirt and laid my head in the grass. When I put my head on the grass, it felt like everything in my body just shut down. I went to sleep as soon as my head hit the ground. I think I just hit the World's Record of going to sleep the fastest. I felt relieved that I could actually achieve something in this destroyed world. 

I quickly feel asleep depending on the leaves and sticks around the tree to alert us if someone was coming.

It has past a couple of hours and both of us are still asleep. 

Idk if you know me, but If you do, you would know that I have the weirdest dreams. I bet you money that you won't guess what happened. In my dream, the exact thing happened the the world and stuff, but the terrorist that come to our school actually took their mask off. I thought I was going to have a regular dream, but instead I didn't. When the terrorist took their mask off, I saw green faces. I thought that they were people who colored their face green, but they were actually aliens. After I saw   the aliens I quickly woke up.( I think I have the World's Record for waking up the fastest too.) 

I thought it was the horrible dream that woke me up, but it wasn't. When I opened my eyes, I saw a person standing right over me,

"Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh," I screamed in a high pitched voice, but the person put their hand over my mouth trying to keep me quiet.

"Shut-up before someone finds us," the person said.

"Ok, I'll do anything you want," I said.

When I said that, I thought to myslelf. That voice sounded familiar. It took me a long time before I realized who it was. I was going to take my chances to see who it was, but I was scared that the person would kill me if i moved. So instead of moving I just looked up. When I saw who it was, I was so surprised. 

"Kris," I said 

"Barry," she responded. 

When we both recognized each other, she lift me up.

"I thought all of you were dead," she yells. 

"I found Bailey in the cafeteria after the explosion," I yell back to her.

" I was just going around to look for survivors, and I found you two laying under a tree."

"We are looking for survivors too, we just decided to get some rest and take a break."

After me and Kris talked a little bit more, I woke up Bailey. When she woke up., she was even surprised to see Kris, and they barley even knew each other.

"Wait, Barry, why didn't you wake me up for my shift"? Bailey asked. 

" I didn't want to wake you up from your sleeping, so I just gave you my jacket and continued your shift," I responded.

At fist I thought that she was going to go off or get mad at me, but she just told me "thankyou."

" You're welcome," I told her.

After the meet and greet, all of us were hungry, so we needed to go fetch us some food. We all thought that all the animals died in terrorist attack, but there some loose deer in the forest where we  slept in. To get some food and not scare it off, me, Bailey, and Kris decided that we needed to be quiet and we knew that we would need weapons. After that thought we gathered up some sticks and stones to make weapons. We tied the stones to the sticks with cut vines that came from trees. 

" Guys if we have shoes on, we would make up too much noise," Bailey insisted.

"She has a point Barry," Kris said 

"OK, Ok, take your shoes off, and put them by this tree," I told the girls.

"Ok," they both said together.

We found a deer to attack. Our plan was to surround the deer on three sides and walk closer to it quietly. We all did what we were supposed to do and worked together.

When we got to the closest point of the deer, we looked at each other to confirm that we were about to attack.  When it was the right time to attack, I counted to three.

"1,2,3," I said.

At one time we all through our weapons.

When we walked up to where the deer was before we attacked it, we didn't see any deer.

"What happen the the deer," Kris asked.

"Over there, let's go," I told them.

We started running to towards the deer, but the deer was to fast. We thought all hope was lost, but we kept running. 

When we were running, we see someone run across the forest and tackle the deer. Bailey, Kris, and I all stopped. We ran toward the person and the deer. When we got to the person, we saw who it was, I wasn't surprised . The person that we saw was my friend Ethan.
