Just another boring day. Nothing ever happens. She thought as she sat at the edge of her bed on her phone. Marie had school tomorrow but she had all her homework piled up on her desk. She knew she wasn't going to pass tenth grade and that she'd repeat, but it didn't matter to her. All she cared about was popularity, style, and... Well, boys. Besides, she had better things to do, like checking her Instagram and Snapchat. If she wasn't going to update her status, who was? So yeah, she's got a LOT to do other than homework.

"Marie! Get downstairs now!" Mrs. Johnson called.
Marie sighed and made her way down stairs to the kitchen. Her mother was washing dishes. "Yeah mom? What's up?"
"Excuse me? 'What's up'? Don't talk to me like I'm one of your girlfriends." Mrs. Johnson didn't seem like she was in a good mood. She looked as if she was about to break into tears, but it didn't bother Marie at all, so she just ignored it. "Okay. Yes mother?" She'd ask in a sarcastic tone. Mrs. Johnson was silent for a few seconds, then she began to talk again. "...Your father and I have talked, and-" "I can go on that trip to Paris with my friends?!" Marie bursted out. She's been asking her parents for three months already and got rejected every time. However, the stern look her mother gave Marie after that sudden outburst made Marie regret it. "No, but... You will be going on a trip." Mrs. Johnson said, turning off the faucet and drying her hands. Marie got confused and asked, "Trip? Where?" Her mother shook her head like she refused to answer Marie's question. "I should have waited till' your father came back from work, so just forget what I said for now..." Marie was about to ask her what she meant, but her mother was already making her way to the living room.

Ugh, never mind then. Tell me later, geez. Marie pulled out her phone and updated her status.

"Mom's being a total sad sack. She said I'm going on some trip, hopefully it's Paris!" Marie added a winky-smiley face at the end then posted it. Instantly, likes started coming in like a machine gun. Comments like, "Awesome! Let me come with!" Or "Really? So jelly right now!" Started filling the comment section. Then there's that one weirdo she goes to school with who said, "DM me." Pervert. She thought. She turned her phone off and walked back upstairs to her room.

It's been 4 hours until Mr. Johnson finally got home. "I'm home sweetheart!" He called. Mrs. Johnson stormed down the stairs and into the living room. "You little!- Your an hour late mister, where were you!?" She almost cussed until she noticed that Marie was sitting on the couch, listening to their conversation. "I was at the bar grabbing a drink with my co-workers, it's fine." Mrs. Johnson sighed. Marie could tell he was drinking, she could smell it all the way from the couch, her father's breath reeked of beer. "Call me the next time you decide to completely disobey my orders." Mrs. Johnson looked stern, as always. Then Mr. Johnson wrapped his arms around her and whispered, "Guess I just like playing 'bad cop'." Now they were at it again, giggling at each other as my mom tried to pull away from him. "Stop it!" Mrs. Johnson laughed. Marie stuck her finger in her mouth and pretended to gag. "No, you guys stop it. You're hurting my ears and eyes." Marie said with a sigh. Her father looked at Marie confused, then stared back at Mrs. Johnson. "You didn't tell her, did you?" Mrs. Johnson finally pulled away and looked to the ground. Now Marie was also confused. "Tell me what? Does it have to do with that trip you guys want me to go on?" Her father sighed and sat on the couch with Marie. "Marie. Here's the thing... That procrastinating thing you do, has got to stop." He placed his hands on her lap and looked at Marie with a worried face.

Why does everyone here look like a bunch of sad sacks? She thought. She was really getting annoyed by what was going on, so she said, "Look, I got some status-updating to do. So if that's all you wanted to say, then-" "Your going to a boarding school." Mr. Johnson said with no hesitation. Mrs. Johnson sat down on the couch with them. "We've already packed your bags. Your flight leaves tomorrow. We didn't want to tell you earlier because we didn't want you to have to worry about it." "Or we just didn't want you running away or doing something stupid." Mr. Johnson added. "... Yes." Mrs. Johnson said. Marie was shocked. Boarding school? No way, they would never do that... Right? She shook her head.

"Your joking right?" Her parents sat there with no reply. Marie stood up and threw a fit. "WHAT!? You can't be serious! I can't go to a boarding school! What about my followers? I need to stay, I won't go!" Mr. Johnson stood up. "You don't have a choice. Your flight to Gradford Academy is tomorrow morning and we've already paid for it." Gradford? GRADFORD?! Marie grew wide-eyed and shouted. "Gradford?! That's in the United States! I'm Canadian blood, I can't go there!" Mr. Johnson crossed his arms and Mrs. Johnson went upstairs for something. "Look at me young lady. Do I look like I care? No, I don't. Now go upstairs to your room and stay there, understood?!" Marie screamed and run upstairs to her room and shut the door.

When she jumped in her bed, she noticed a suitcase placed next to her desk. Dumb mom, you came up here to give me that damn suitcase. This is straight up bull sh- Marie's thought was interrupted by a knock at her bedroom door. "What?!" She yelled, then the door opened up. Forgot to lock the door, just great... "Sweety?" Mrs. Johnson walked in. She sat on the edge of Marie's bed and sighed. "You know we're only doing this for your own good, right?" Marie moaned and fell backwards on her bed. "I don't care, and so should you. Since when did my life bother you?" Mrs. Johnson laughed. "Ever since I became your mother, that's when." Mrs. Johnson coughed and continued. "Maybe you'll like it better there. I heard it's beautiful there." She hugged Marie. "Please, just try it out, for me?" Mrs. Johnson paused, then rephrased what she said. "Try it out, for your followers. Maybe all this might be a great post for your Instafram." "Instagram" Marie corrected. "Yeah. Well, get some rest and think about what I said, okay?" Marie nodded and Mrs. Johnson walked out of the room. She's right. This is great for a Instagram post. Marie pulled out her phone and updated her status.

"Turns out I'm going to the United States guys! See ya'll around!" She posted it with a peace sign and a smiley face.

Maybe... the United States has cute boys. Marie turned off the lights and fell asleep.
