Today's the day. Let's just get this over with. Marie sat up in her bed and yawned. She walked down to the kitchen and smelled eggs and bacon cooking, her favorite. When she sat at the dining table, she saw a plate with eggs, bacon, French toast, and a bowl of oatmeal. Guess they're trying to go all-out on my last day, huh? She shrugged and dug into her plate. Mrs. Johnson walked in and gave a smile.
"You're looking beautiful today." Marie looked down at her clothes. She usually wears shirts that are tied up above her waist like a bra and pants that are technically bikini bottoms. But today she's wearing a bright floral sweater and white skinny jeans. "Thanks mom." Marie said sincerely. Mrs. Johnson walked to the table and took a seat across from Marie. "Don't worry, everything will be fine. Trust me, you'll be graduating in a snap!" Mrs. Johnson snapped her fingers together to exaggerate what she said. Marie chuckled and smiled at her mother, something she hasn't done in years. Mrs. Johnson jumped a little then smiled back. "Hurry and finish your food, your father's waiting in the car." She stood up and walked to the car.
Marie sighed and began to question herself. Why am I like this? I feel more... Glad. She just shook the thought off and finished off her food. Marie was different that morning, and she knew that she was. Maybe it was the fact that she didn't check her Snapchat yet, so she pulled out her phone and updated her status.
"Today's the day guys! Can't wait to get all those boys! Wish me luck!" Posted with three hearts at the end. Again, likes were instantly coming in.
Marie hid the phone in her back pocket and went to the car. For the whole ride to the airport, she hasn't touched her phone at all. Something was off, really off, but it didn't bother Marie, she was glad to be going to the U.S. for some reason. Not for something Instagram-worthy, but something else.
"Stay safe Marie! Don't forget to get good grades!" Mrs. Johnson shouted as Marie was passing through the gate. "And don't forget, no boys, ya here me?" Mr. Johnson motioned two fingers from his eyes then flicked them at Marie, signaling that he'd keep his eyes on her. How can you do that when I'm in Gradford? Marie giggled at the thought and waved good-bye to her parents.
Her flight to Washington didn't take long, but maybe that was because she was asleep the whole time. As she got off the plane, she walked to the luggage claim and waited for her suitcase.
"... Wait... Where is it?" Marie said. She started to panic as she paced around, looking for her suitcase. Now she was worried, she had left her phone in there. She lost her baby, without it, she'll never find the school, she can't call anyone, and she can't vlog her day.
Damn, damn, damn! Marie thought out of frustration. Where is it? Where, where, wher-
She found it. But Marie immediately turned red and stormed her way to some stranger. He was walking away while strolling Marie's suitcase. She stormed up behind him and grabbed him from his left shoulder. He turned around, looking at Marie wide-eyed and clueless.
"Hey! That's MY suitcase!" She shouted with clenched fists. The stranger looked down at the bag and looked back up, still looking lost. "Oh! This is? My gosh, my bad. I didn't know, I'm sorry." He passed it back to Marie, but she didn't forgive him so easily. "Ugh! What's wrong with you?! Can't you tell if a bag is yours or not!?"
"Woah! It was a honest mistake! Calm down!" He shouted back at her, lifting his hands with his palms facing Marie. "Ugh!" Marie screamed. She stormed past him, hitting his left shoulder with her right shoulder. "Dumb Americans..." Marie said harshly.
The boy turned around and shouted back at her. "Excuse me? What did you just say?" Marie stopped and turned around as well. "'Dumb Americans', what? Are you going to do something about it?!" The boy stood there silently, realizing that he can't because she was a girl. Marie grinned. "Hmph!" She turned back around and walked away.
Marie had pulled her phone out again and updated her status again.
"It's my first hour on American soil and I'm already pissed! Some jerk tried to steal my bag!" And send. She put her phone in her pocket without checking all the likes she'll get from it. "I never want to see that jerk again. If I do-" She paused and sighed. "I won't. I won't see him again." She said under her breath and smiled. "Everything's fine, that was just a small mishap. You'll have a great time!" People started staring at her because she was talking to herself. Aaannd I'll have a great time right after I catch a cab. She thought as she pulled her phone out and dialed for a taxi.
