PROLOGUE
My name is Coraline. I'm a vampire.
Before I tell you all about vampires there's something you need to know. We are at war, war with the humans. We have hated each other for centuries on end. Most think the war will never stop, not ever, but it has to... One day.
Now about vampires. We are not immortal and we can procreate. Silver is our ultimate weakness. It acts like a poison and is lethal if it gets inside of us in any way and it burns to the touch.
You may be wondering why we are at war with humans. It's because of a jewel, Adelaide's Jewel. People say it has mystical powers or something like immortality and fertility and other stuff like that. Anyway the humans stole it so now we're just fighting each other... For 400 years. Yep it's stupid. We did live in harmony, apparently, before all this happened... Such a waste...
