Chapter 1

Jessa

On more occasions than one, I would close my eyes and imagine my life as I would have as a little girl. There was no fairytale white princess wedding, only focusing on the happily ever after, because weddings could be beautiful and perfect but it could also be just an act. Who knows what happens behind that perfect white smile and beautiful dress. But the marriage, that's the happily ever after. That's the sign of true happiness, because if you're in a happy marriage filled with laughter and love, life will eventually fit into place, and you'll get your happily ever after.

The Church was old, rusty and traditional. Mama always says, the older the church, the more history it brings, and the more stories it will tell. Stories of love and stories of mourn. My body tingled with happiness, being surrounded in this open air. I've been here for two days, and I am already in love with this place. The weather was warm, but there was still a slight breeze blowing across the wind. I took slow steps, admiring the scene around me, right before I clashed into a hard body.

"Watch it." The voice deep, dark and rusty. A slight hint of anger hidden deep beneath his words. Shocked by the sudden encounter, I took a deep breath, before trying to attempt to stand up.

"I'm sorry." I winced, first day attending mass at this beautiful Church and I already embarrassed myself around these people. The guy, who although had a rough and angry presence at first, stood up and presented his hand to me, offering to help me up. His hands were rough, filled with calluses, but they gripped my small hands tight.

I lifted my eyes up to meet the guys. They were dark and grey, a hint with hazel in them. Purely perfection. His eyes were familiar, his jawline was also familiar. I gasped, as the rest of his face fit into my memory. It was him. All of his pure perfection, right before my very eyes. "Jessa?" His voice was soft filled with memories we held years and years ago. It seemed like it was a whole lifetime ago. Ancient history.

"Hey Luca." I stared straight at his nose. If i moved my eyesight a few inches up and I'll be greeted with his perfect eyes. I needed to forget his eyes, I needed to forget Luca. Luca was my first kiss, and every guy I encountered, whether it was a date or it was just a boy passing by, I always compared their eyes to Luca's, not one did justice.

He cleared his throat, and I moved my eyes to the ground, "What are you doing here Angel?" Angel. His nickname for me. The only nickname he gave to me, the one where he and I will never let another sole whisper in my direction. I was his Angel.

I cleared my eyes and risked a glance to his face, before shooting my eyes straight back down to the floor, "I was offered a place at Berkeley, for my last year here." He didn't say anything and the silence was complete torture, "I'm studying journalism." His brows furrowed as if he was confused about what I said for a moment, he should be, I've left him with a bucket load of information and to force him to live his life with that information.

The big bell dinged behind us at the Church. Mass was about to start. No more fantasising about the perfect fairytale I envisioned with Luca, this is reality. I have to move on, because God knows that a perfect man like Luca Grayson has a century worth of girls in line waiting for their turn with him. "It was good seeing you Luca." I smiled weakly and bypassed him and walked into the Church, praying that I won't let my heart fall for Luca Grayson again, because God knows I won't be able to survive it a second round.

I walked into the Church with my head held high or I hoped that's what I did, because all I wanted to do was sweep into one of those pews and hide in there forever. I gasped when a hand touched my shoulder. Praying it wasn't Luca, I turned around and was greeted by an old lady with grey hair and a walking cane. "Sorry love, but do you mind if I go in before you, I like being on the edge, it makes me feel on top of the world!" Her voice was light and cheery despite her old age. I quickly moved out of the way and helped her into the pew, before following behind her.
