This is a short story I wrote in Creative Writing class for epigraphs that I wanted to share on Wattpad so enjoy! I believe I found the quote from the story Maybe Someday.
"He wants to say I love you but keeps it at goodnight because love will mean some falling and she's afraid of heights."
Dear Luke,
I do not know if I will be able to write this letter so that it may return to your hands someday. I'm surprised I'm writing this at all! But back to the chase, I'm sorry for the fact that I moved to California 10 years ago. My love for the arts and the college that granted me the permission to pursue my dreams made me forget that I had to think of your feelings for me packing my bags out of nowhere and leaving you after graduating senior year. I forgot that you should be another priority at that time.Do you remember that time when we were kids and we said what we wanted to do even though we were in middle school? I wanted to be an artist and you said that was a good idea considering all the times I wrote on your paper to doodle. You wanted to be an astronaut to study all about astronomy and how our universe is the way it is. That night was the night we thought our careers were going to be spectacular. I thought about painting our universe as you explored it.
High school was the best for us, as we ventured out to find ourselves in ourselves and each other. We always showed up each other's houses for a movie and Chinese takeout night. We would spend summer nights out going to concerts and long car rides just enjoying the company.
I'm sorry I never said goodbye to you. I didn't have the heart to tell my best friend that I would be leaving at such a strange time in our lives. I hope you are doing okay. How is the family? How are you? I'm sorry it took me so long to write to you. I'm sorry I ignored your messages and calls, hoping you would understand.
I'm sorry and I miss you. I love you. Thanks for dealing with my sarcasm and awful habits over the years. Meet up with me at the local coffee shop like we used to on September 15 at 5 p.m. sharp.
Love,
AlexisLuke put the letter back into the envelope and walked inside the shop. The aroma of coffee hitting his senses calmed his nerves. He hasn't seen Alexis in so long and he was nervous how his reaction would be when he saw her. He starts fidgeting and checking the time. Where is she? He thought. Suddenly, he heard the familiar bell of the door ring as the person walks in. Alexis wasn't how she looked a couple years ago. She was lovelier than the last time I saw her.
"Luke?"
"Alexis," he whispers wistfully.
They embrace and the feelings they had before their encounter vanished. It felt like an eternity since they met face to face. They order their drinks and sit in a comfortable silence. It took a while for the conversation to start and once it did they couldn't stop. They caught up with everything that happened in a long period of time. Both of them did not notice that the waitress brought their drinks until darkness consumed the windows.
When they were done, he dropped her off at the hotel she was staying at for a couple of nights.
"I had a great time tonight," she said as she turned to face him.
"Me too. Maybe we can meet some other time?"
"Of course! See you later!"
"Wait! Um...goodnight."
She laughs,"Goodnight Luke."
With that statement, she walks into the hotel with a skip in her step. She didn't know that he drove away with stars in his eyes and smile that lit up his whole face.
Thanks for reading my story! If you have a suggestion to make the story better, let me know.
I love you all.
