Aphmau sits on the deck of the ship, rocking side-to-side and humming quietly. In her arms she holds Lillith Garnet, who is whimpering softly. Around them, boxes and cargo slide around from the rocking of the boat and the rough waves. Off in the distance, the sky has a faint purple outline, announcing the sun's awakening. Aphmau sighs tiredly, and tries once again to calm the baby.
"Lillith...Lillith...Shh," She quietly shushes her, trying not to wake the others, "Its OK... Calm down, you're OK, its OK... shh."
In her attempts to calm the unhappy baby, she doesn't notice Aaron approaching.
"She still won't calm down huh?" He asks.
Aphmau jumps slightly, which causes Lillith to start crying slightly. Aaron looks at her guiltily.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you guys."
Aphmau just sighs and shrugs.
"It's fine. She's already upset so it doesn't really matter. I think it's the waves. They're rough tonight." She explains.
Aaron nods and sits down beside her as she coos in a calming voice. When it doesn't work, she groans.
"Listen kid," She says looking at Lillith, "I love you, but you're driving me nuts."
Aaron chuckles slightly, and Aphmau looks at him with a bemused expression.
"What's so funny?" She asks.
"I don't know anybody else who would sit up all night, on a boat, in rough waters, trying to calm a baby."
"Not counting any mother ever?"
"Yes," Aaron rolls his eyes, "Not counting every mother ever."
Aphmau smiles slightly, happy to have the company. Aaron looks at Lillith for a moment.
"Do you want me to hold her for a while? I know you've been up here for a while now."
"Well...," Aphmau pauses, considering, "Yeah, if you would. Maybe she'll calm down a bit if you hold her."
"I doubt it, she's most calm around you."
Despite his debate, Aaron takes Lillith, and starts gently rocking her. Aphmau leans against his shoulder and watches as the baby calms slightly. She smiles knowingly.
"Told you." She says, looking at Aaron with an "I-told-you-so" face.
Aaron, looking slightly surprised, gives a slight smile.
"Hmm. You did," He turns to her, "Do you want her back?"
"I guess I should probably get her back to bed while she's still happy and quiet."
Aphmau takes the baby from Aaron. As she begins to stand up, a rough wave hits the ship and sends both Aphmau and Lillith falling backwards.
