Chapter One
Darkness took over my heart. It left black, cold, big, empty space in it. The space that triggered a need to fill it. A need for the search of what can stop it from hurting me so bad. Was it a person or just a plain exigency of belonging to someone. Whatever my heart wanted I failed to provide it with. Days were getting longer. Time was passing by each minute slower. My heart was pumping inaudibly. My mind was overflowing with morbid thoughts. I tried to suppress them but the harder I tried more frequently they’d appear even worse than before. It was pointless. Any other person would cry it out and be done with it. Tears were unknown term in my dictionary. Why was this happening to me? I never felt like this. I was happy. I didn’t need anything or anyone to be genuinely happy.
It all started a week ago, I believe. My friend was occupied with something on her phone and was not paying any attention on anything I was saying. I literally had to shout in front of her face to make her notice me.
She snapped out of her thoughts and asked me “What’s wrong?”
“Well, I was trying to have a conversation with you but you’ve seemed to wandered away.”
“Oh. I’m sorry. I was caught up with this story I’ve been reading. It is so contagious; I can not hold myself away from it.”
“What story? And how can you read it on your phone? It’s not one of those stupid fan fictions, so called stories that are hurting my brain with countless grammar mistakes and bad writing?”
“No, it’s not. It is an unprofessional writer but it is just breathtaking. You wouldn’t believe how many undiscovered and talented writers there are. This is just unbelievable that a teenager can write these extraordinary stories.”
“Pase,” her name is Paisley but I call her Pase “what are you talking about?”
I had no idea that this was the word that will soon change everything I am.
“Wattpad. It is an online community for discovering and sharing stories. You should join it.”
“Sounds interesting. I’ll check it out when I come home.”
As soon as we finished our conversation the bus came around and Pase had to go. I was now left alone on the bus stop while waiting for my chauffeur to pick me up. He should’ve been here by now. I guess it’s my brother who’s holding him back, again. Jer, my brother Jeremy, had this habit of calling Greg, our driver, to pick him up whenever he got too drunk to drive by himself. I could see the sky was getting darker as the grey clouds took over which meant that a storm was preparing. I sat down on the bench on the bus stop because it had some sort of roofing over it and as soon as I sat down it started raining rats out there. I looked on my phone and Greg was already 15 minutes late so I decided to call him. He didn’t pick up so I called Jer and it went straight to the voicemail. Great, now I’m stuck here until it stops raining, if it stops.
“Hi.” I heard a deep husky voice above me.
I raised my head and saw a tall soaked figure. I haven’t seen him around here before. He was wearing a coat, boots, skinny jeans and a T-Shirt which were all black as his hair which was now sticking to the side of his face.
“Hello?” he waved his hand in front of my face and I started blushing because I was staring at him and I didn’t even realize it.
“H-Hi.” was all I could stutter out.
“I’m Jae. What’s your name?”
Jae, such a lovely name, I thought to myself. “My name is Ashira. It’s not as nice as yours but hey, I didn’t have vote on it.”
