One Shot #15
Babies and Their Dada
"Anaisha, don't worry, kids and I will be fine. You focus on your work. It's a big day for you, do well in your conference. We'll wait for you at home."
I tell my wife, boasting her confidence as she is going for a medical conference where she'll be giving a presentation on the rare cancer case of a kid she has recently treated."Are you sure, Bir? You know na, Arman and Ayaan don't sit idly for long. There are always up for mischief, and never repeat the same prank. You sure na, you'll be able to take care of them?" my wife asks, her forehead with creases of anxiety.
"Of course, I will. Now, c'mon, finish your breakfast fast, or else you'll be late." I say, passing her my smile, which I know will calm her down. And it does, too.
"Okay, but if you need anything, call me up. And haan, sterilise the milk bottles before giving them for feeding, even their water sippers. Diapers are in the left cabinet of our cupboard, if they ruin their clothes then fresh clothes are in the right cabinet of the same cupboard. Don't let them walk bare feet, make them wear their shoes or slippers. Don't let them go near the door, or else they'll be running on the road in no time. When you feed them food, make sure not to let them play with it. They are quite experts in it. Don't let them watch TV for more than two hours, that too only in evening when Mickey Mouse and Club House airs. Make sure the appliances are off, and the boys aren't near the switch boards, because Ayaan already got a shock last week. And haan wo ... ," my wife continues to speak, that too without forgetting even a word.
Sometimes, I find it really strange that the same girl who used to be so career oriented, now know how to balance her work and our three-year-old twins. There is no doubt she is a competent doctor, but she's a wonderful mother as well. The way she handles everything, is really commendable! I'm a very proud husband!
"Calm down, Anu!" I cup her face. "It just for a day, it won't be that hard to handle Arman and Ayaan, they are just two three-year-old boys, what mayhem would they cause? Chillax and concentrate on your conference. All the best and I love you!"
"They are three, but the mayhem they create is something you haven't really seen, only heard about it. Anyway, Dr. Anuj's waiting. I love you too, and have fun with the kids. Best of luck to you as well." my wife says, and I kiss her forehead.
She gets in the car and leaves for the conference venue. I wave till she is out of my sight, then walk inside. Today, I am to take care of my boys, and I know it'll be easy. How tough will it be to handle two toddlers? Oh and yes, my parents are out of town, GM's with them as well. It's just me and my two boys, gonna be fun, I think so.
As the boys are still sleeping, I think to make a good breakfast for them. After all, it is probably the first time I'll wake them up, opposed to usual days when Anaisha does that. Well, she has been doing that since the kids are born, while simultaneously doing her job as an online consultant for NLHRC.
