I gently push Lexis's hoodie back, exposing her long, probably waist length blonde hair, pale skin, and jade green eyes. She looks like the girl I supported from the subway when she looked like she was gonna fall. Same black hoodie and everything. Isn't she pretty? My subconscious teases. She lowers her eyes, a pink blush gracing her cheeks. I rest my hand on her arm through her faded black hoodie and I swear that she flinches. What the heck? Maybe she's just fragile.
Lexis
As his slender hand rests on my newly cut arm, I can't help but flinch in pain. He holds out two fingers, placing them under my chin and lifting it up. He stares into my eyes and we just sit there, his hands on my chin and arm, looking into each others green eyes. I break the stare, using my thin pale hands to push his away. I cast my gaze to the floor, my head moving down with my gaze. He shakes my arm lightly, asking, "Are you okay?"
I bite my lip, should I tell him? I hardly know him. I could get in trouble. I don't know! A battle rages in my brain. I finally decide.
"I'm fine." It's so hard to say it. I silently beg for him to question my answer.
"I don't believe you." What if he finds out? The miniscule voice in my head nags. I murmur, "I'll tell you nothing. Now, let me get started on my work or I'll tell Mrs. Oliver." He lets it go. For now. The bell rings and the class floods into the halls.

As the day passes, I ask around about Lexis. All I hear is that she's bad news. Many people, even teachers, just wrinkled their noses at the mention of her name. She's a straight A student, from what I heard. Weird. Most straight A students are teachers pets. I passed her in the hallway once, but when I tried to get her attention, she shrugged me off and ran down the hall, like a scared deer. As I think about it now, walking home from the subway, she seemed very skittish. I see a dark figure sprinting down the sidewalk I'm walking on, ahead of me. They're climbing the fire escape of an apartment building. The person's hood slips back, revealing a mane of long, waist length blonde hair. Lexis! It was her! She climbed into the window, carefully closing it. I waited there for a minute, collecting my thoughts. Suddenly, I see her hair, and head, hit the grubby glass pane of the window, a red streak left behind as she slides down the window, and is slammed back again! I just start walking away, because I'm a total coward. I can't do anything about her situation. Not now. I hear a slam, and see Lexis fall through the window, landing on her back, glass in her hair, 2 men and a woman standing above her.
"STOP!!!"
