Gale Point Of View
Ice bites my fingertips as I sit in Katniss' and mines usual spot. I stare out over the trees. I admire the woods. Our woods. It's the only place I feel whole and alive. But now I have no one to share it with. Katniss is in the games and the pain engulfs me and swallows me whole.
I stand up, stretching my legs and and scan the area for any game. Nothing. Hunting isn't the same without her. I love her. And I never got to tell her, and I may never get the chance.
I scoop up my bag and quickly make my way back to the district. My mom makes me go to school , but I'm scarcely on time nowadays. I enter through the fence and continue on the cracked road through the seam.
On the way to school, I pass the mayor's house and see Madge rushing out the door. I never really talk to her except for when I deliver the strawberries. Everyone ignores her but she's obviously one of the most attractive girls in our school.
I end up catching up to her and she turns to me and stares. I break the silence "Can I help you?"
"I was actually wondering that myself, what do you want with me?"
"Just thought you would prefer some company while you walk" Her golden curls shimmer and her lips break into a likable smile.
"No one ever associates with me." She almost sounded sarcastic but I knew she was being honest. She usually annoys me, being a rich "townie" ,but the life we are born into is hard to alter. I finally realized she's authentically lonely.
"Well it's your lucky day, Undersee." I grin and she looks happy. I realize how beautiful she is. We push open the doors to the old school and go our separate ways. She waves and I flash a small smile. A warm feeling swirls in my stomach. I didn't know someone else could make me feel this way. Katniss is the only one who makes me feel truly happy. With her gone, I thought I could only feel bitterness and cold.
I was wrong.
