Chapter Four

---POV--Hunter---
I stopped and starred at where she left. Her message still running through my head. My heart aching for her. My wolf whining in pain. I've never seen him be so weak before. My soulmate has just left. All because of me. All because of the stupid past. That she doesn't even understand. Back then it was the best for both of us. We didn't know we would end up being mates. Everything was telling me to go after her and make her come back. I can't force her to do what she doesn't want. It's her choice.

Over ten years. I can't believe that day was so long ago. I relive the pain everyday. The pain of hurting my mate. My one and only true love. Except back then I didn't know that. I just thought she was some type of crush. I didn't know this would all happen. My world tumbled down that day. I saw her cry. For the last time. Ever.

I walked over the the half eaten squirrel she had left. It was huge. She must have been so proud of herself. Of course I'm proud of her too. I've never seen a squirrel as big as that.... well from a girl getting it... Sniffing it I found her wonderful scent all over it. I miss her more then she will ever know. I'm not going to force her to be my mate if she doesn't want to be. I would understand why not. Before I knew it I was back in human form. I quickly put on cloths when I heard paws coming at me in great speed. Once they saw I wasn't in wolf form and dressed they went behind some trees and did the same thing. I tore my eyes away from the squirrel and at the sky. It was night now.

"Josh, Arthur, Archer, stay back and build the tents you guys brought. Brayden, Mercedes, Zoey, collect sticks and make a fire and once your done with that collect some of these berries. Chase, James, find some water and bring some over here. The rest of you hunt. I will be back later," I barked orders but mumbled the last part.

"Alpha. I'm coming with you," Alan said.

"Fine Al but you have to keep up with me.. If you can..."

"Keep up with you? HA! Easy as cake!" We both laughed as we changed back into wolf form.

'Race like old times?' Alan mind linked me.

'Ready to lose like old times?' I asked back.

'More like ready to win. Where to?'

'Over there to that hill. It looks over the other land. We might be able to see how far she went from there.' He nodded. 'Ready? Set? Go!' Then we took off like two bats out of hell. I was in the lead as usual.

The hill was just two feet away! Unexpectedly I stopped. We used to have these eases when we first all turned. We were about 5. Me, Al, and Jessie. We shifted way earlier then others. Alan stopped ahead of my a soon as he realized I wasn't going to run. We changed back into human form and went to the top of the hill.

"What's wrong Hunter?" Alan asked squinting his eyebrows together.

"You don't get it Alan... I've loved your sister for the longest time.... I even broke her heart to stop her from feeling falling for me and us both getting hurt when one of us found a mate and not the other. But here we are! Mates! And she ran away. From me!" I laughed. "I love her more then anything Al and I know she's your sister and all but still. I love her. She's my soulmate. If I don't get her back I don't know what I would do. But what if she rejects me?" I turned serious and didn't laugh anymore.

"Ugh, she said earlier today she wouldn't reject her mate to Brayden and Mercedes when me and you were on the phone. I know you've loved her since we were little. I was glad you did. At that moment I knew if something happened to the rest of us she would only have you to protect her. That's why I kept trying to get you to take it back. There was something between you to that wasn't describable. I knew you were her mate. I could tell. She cared about back then like you cared about her. After that day she was broken." We sat there in silence after a while. We never talked about this. Except when we were 4.

"Well we better be heading back now before Brayden rips off my head for stealing you for so long," I laughed at the thought of a 115 pound girl ripping off an Alphas head.

"Yeah we better," Alan laughed back. We shifted right their behind some trees. I started up at the moon. Somewhere out there, is Jessica. Maybe she's looking at the sky right now too. I miss her more then ever. Her scent is all stale around here. With one more look I howled like the wolf I am. Putting every part of my soul and pain and misery into it. I heard the rest join in with me. Everybody I brought. Then we left. As we were walking away I thought I heard a little howl far into the distance. Trying to be quiet but failing. Nobody could resist joining in on their Alphas howl. At that moment I knew she was out there. She was safe. But most importantly alive.

"Eat up Alpha. You need your energy for tomorrow," Mercedes was trying to get me to eat. Me and Alan we back at the pack. I still haven't touched my food.

"How can I eat when my mate is out there somewhere? Alone?" I asked confused. I hid my pain and sorrow as quick as I got them.
"If you plan on finding her and keepin her you need to eat so you don't die," she warned. With that I ate. The rabbit was good.

"Alpha, Alan told us to grab a few things before we left," Chase smiled. Oh great. What this time? Not another worm, spider, snake, knuckle sandwich, or anything please I begged!

"Ok..." I was scared for a while when I realized. I'm Alpha now! They can't do that stuff to me anymore. I have to seem strong and keep hope for them. Then they will be calm.

"Here," he smile. Holding out the perfect objects.

"They smell like her," I breathed in remember the objects. "Isn't that the blanket my mom gave her when she turned two?" I chuckled. That was a fun day. Chase nodded his head. It was a few of her objects. When I saw the last one I froze. "She still kept that?"

I froze. It was a rainbow bear I won for her when we were 4 and our parents took us all to the carnival. She was in love with it when she first say it. I knew I had tiger it for her. The sparkle in her eyes won me over as I wasted $6 at the coin toss trying to get it for her. She didn't even watch me. Keeping her eyes on the bear. Frozen in some trance. She looked so beautiful right then and there. When I finally won it she asked what I would do with it. I smiled and gave it to her. She giggled and her eyes lit up at it. That's when I realized it. I loved Jessica. She hugged me around the waist. I hugged her back and never wante to let go. But I had to, for Alan wanted to get on some stupid Gravitron ride or something. Well it wasn't stupid. It was awesome. But still. I didn't want to let her go.

"Yeah. She keeps it on her bed. Why?" Chase said.

At that moment I knew I'm never giving up on finding her. I starred at them. The bear, a baby blanket, a few shirts, and a stuffed puppy that I got her for her 5th Birthday. Ended up she slept with that too. It brought a smile to my face. Maybe just maybe, she still feels something toward me? Maybe tonight I can sleep without that day haunting me in my dreams.

"Oh yeah and we brought this," Alan winked. My old guitar. Well a few years old. "On our trip we will need entertainment. Oh and Jess loved music."

I never felt so happy in my life since I was little. But it would have been better with one more thing. Jess being curled up, in my arms, as we both fell asleep. Before I knew it we were in tents. I shared mine with Alan, Brayden, Mercedes, and Josh. Oh and ends up Mercedes and Josh were mates! Who knew? I watched as my best friends fell asleep with their mates in there arms. Lounging filled my heart. I need her back now. More then ever. I need my little run away. My cute, little, beautiful mate.
