Ten thousand words couldn't fill the hole he left in her heart. Ten thousand tears couldn't drown her sorrows. Ten thousand cuts in her pale skin wouldnt numb her. She knew, because she tried.

Ten steps. Thats all it was right? Ten steps and then they would take over , right? No. Senior year was so different from ten steps. So so so different. It was different now because she was a transfer student. It couldnt be like a movie where she became instantly popular because she knew she wasnt insanely pretty like normally popular girls. She was average. Or she thought she was average. Her name was average. Her 'look' was average. The way she wore her hair was below average. 'Average'  A three syllable word to describe people like her.

Halfway there. Now at the foot of the concrete steps that led into the brick building. Every piece of her being wanted to turn around and run back to her moms car and beg her to take her back to Sacramento. She turned her head looking behind her. Her mom had left assuming the 17 year old would be ok. She turned back towards the front steps sighing she walked quickly up the steps and pushed through the heavy metal doors. Instantly the loud screams and voices of her now fellow peers filled her ears. Blue orbs scanned the crowds. Her eyes wide she began to walk to who knows where. Hopefully she would end up at the schools office to receive a schedule of some sort. Various people watched her as she walked down the hall books clutched to her chest leather book bag rhythmically hitting her back. She ignored the winks from what she assumed were the popular boys. Assuming because of the varsity jackets lathered in sports badges.

Soon she reached the office happily she opened the door. A plump (clearly dyed) Red headed woman in her late fifties it seemed sat at the desk. A cheery smile crossed her face at the sight of the girl. The woman straightened her  ultra pink sweater that was unbuttoned at the tom revealing a brightly colored floral shirt.

"Hello Dearie What May I Do Yah For Today?"

Her voice was high and the girl resisted the urge to cover her ears. Quickly she slipped the woman a slip of paper her mother had written about the recent school transfer. The woman spun around in her squeaky chair. The fabric on it reminded the girl of carpeting you would find in a doctors office. The woman began to sift through the silver and beige filling cabernets behind her desk. Without turning around to face the girl she began to speak.

"Well Miss. Quinn Abernanchy looks like your homeroom is with Mrs. Belmont on the second floor."

She stopped spinning back around she handed Quinn a yellow tinted piece of paper.  Quinn smiled and took it from her gently as if the paper was the most delicate thing in the world. The woman smiled happily.

"I can call up a student to take you there if need be,Oh! Deary me I have forgotten to introduce myself!! I am Delorice pleasure to meet you~"

She hummed her green eyes squinting slightly as she spoke. Quinn opened her mouth to speak before stopping herself. She thought for a moment.

"That would be just grand , Nice to meet you as well Delorice."

The brunette smiled internally. She had made a friend. Sure it wasnt someone her age but at least it was someone who had been kind to her. What a great way to start the day.

After a call or two on the school intercom a perky younger girl entered the office. She was taller than Quinn by a foot. So possibly 6'2? At the highest. She was asian with long ebony locks that where curled perfectly. She wore wire rimmed glasses as well as a dark black dress that flowed down to just below her knees. She was also clad with a white book bag ,and matching white vans. She looked so put together. She made Quinn feel so boring in her simple gray(grey) 'I love California' t-shirt ,black jeans, and black flats. How awful her hair must look in her simple pony tail! the girl looked to Delorice. After exchanging a few words she turned walking towards Quinn with a smile. Quinn glanced up barely smiling as she began to speak.

"Hello Quinn! Delorice told me your name and that I shall be your tour guide! I am Chasity and im a grade bellow you..."

In a softer almost whisper like voice she added in,

"Thats eleventh grade just by the way."

Quinn couldnt help but laugh. Motioning with her hand she walked out the door after yelling a quick goodbye to Delorice who chuckled as the impatient Chasity yanked Quinn out of the room. Before being entirely whisked away she managed to wave a quick goodbye to delorice who smiled in return.

Quinn walked quickly behind Chasity who had released her wrist and was now speeding down the now empty hallways. She assumed classes had begun. yay. Now she couldnt just disappear into the sea of students as they walked into the classroom.

Quickly hopping up the concrete stairs behind Chasity they began to walk through yet ANOTHER hallway. Wooden doors lined the bricked walls. Room numbers on black plates nailed into each.

They stopped at this door. Room 377. On the plaque in small letters it read " 12 ELA ".

Her worst subject.

Chasity smiled turning to face Quinn.  This is your room! I will leave you know , youll find someone to walk you around for the rest of the day im sure, and if you dont have anyone to sit with at lunch look for me! Our grades have lunch hour together!"

She chimmed. Before Quinn could respond Chasity sped off back down the hallway leaving the other girl alone. With a quick smoothing of her shirt she reached out a hand. She winced as the cool metal of the door reached her warm skin. Turning it she stepped forward.

Her day had begun.
