Solar Storm:
Can relate to;
Solar flare, a large explosion in the sun's atmosphere
Geomagnetic storm, the interaction of the Sun's outburst with Earth's magnetic field

Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame

Planetary Heartburn:

"...at the bottom of the world's oceans have trapped and stored mass quantities of naturally occurring greenhouse gases, including methane. These gas-storing structures, known as clathrates, may not seem like a big deal since they're miles under sea. However, they're not as insulated from the Earth's surface as one might think... especially if the planet is gradually warming.

Even a minor increase in oceanic temperatures could turn these methane-filled clathrates into superweapons capable of --"

Zayn scoffed and switched the tv off the rather pleasant man in front of a green screen, turning the screen black.

"This is getting ridiculous." He said, after a few moments of silence.

"What, the end of the world? I know, so not classy." Maria chuckled quietly from the other couch.

"Well they've been saying the same damn thing since it was announced!" He said, not fazed.

"count your blessings." Liam noted, keeping his eyes on the ring keys he has been fiddling with between his fingers.

The room goes quiet.

"You know what." Harry says, standing. "This is ridiculous, everywhere you look theres just more explanations and warnings to find! its almost as if the world is just giving up and expecting everyone else to stop what they're doing to wallow in self pity! Why dont they -- we -- do something with the rest of the time?"

"Im twenty." He mumbles, sitting back down, all form of excitement lost. He looks up and speaks again. "Im twenty damn years old and im being told that i wont live past next week."

"Well theres nothing we can do about it." Anjelica says, looking up slightly upset, carrying over the mood directly from Harry.

"Iv'e heard the explanations for this whole freaking thing more times than i can count, and i can probably recite the whole thing to you right now, and im not going to sit in here for the rest of my life, for how ever long that may be." She states, looking between everyone, her eyes landing on Harrys whose returning the same expression.

"Well its not exactly the definition of safe at the moment. " Niall says, looking between the two.

"What do you mean?" Sabrina asks from across the couch.

"Have you not seen whats all over every news channel?" He says back, motioning his arm towards the television.

Sabrina slowly slumps back in her seat.

"Everything is out of control." Louis says, explaining. "Hell, id say it was the end of the world if i didn't have to be literal." he let out a dry laugh. "People are getting killed, innocent people who could have some sort of hope left. Get held at gun point and have to give up all they have left, only to be shot anyway. Suicide used to make a story of the news a few days ago, but there has been too many to keep track of and too many to report, so they slowly just gave up talking about it." His gaze doesn't move the whole time, he just stares into space.
