Chapter One

'If the bell does not hurry up and ring I am about to ring the neck of every single person in this room, especially you Mr. I-"

My thoughts were cut off by the shrill ringing of the school bell throughout the building.

"Alright class, you're dismissed," my History teacher, Mr. Ingles,  announced from the front of the room.  I sighed in relief as I picked my bag up from the ground and threw the strap over my shoulder.  I flipped to the page that our homework was on in my textbook and slipped a sheet of paper into it so I wouldn't forget.  I slammed my book shut and picked the weight up, glaring at the back of Mr. Ingles head as I walked out of the room.  I was still staring at his balding head as I stepped into the hall.  I didn't look away until I hit something rather hard and dropped my history book to the ground, causing a loud clapping sound to erupt in the hallway.   A few people looked my way but most carried on.  History was my last class of the day, and I think everyone else was just as ready to be out of this torture zone as I was.  There was only one thing stopping me.  The brick wall of a person who I had ran into was still standing in front of me, unmoving.  I looked up to see the smirking face of Evan Knight.

Evan Knight.  Evan Knight, the captain of the football team, the popular kid, the one all the girls drool over, the player, the 'bad' boy, the jock, the-.

"Watch where you walk, squirt," he said as he ruffled my hair and walked past me.

Evan Knight, the jerk of an older brother that God had ever so thoughtfully blessed me with.

Yes, the most popular senior in our high school was none other than my brother.  He was famous in our school, for things like hooking up with every girl , and cheating on tests like it was his job.  I watched as he strutted down the hallway and fist bumped all the guys, while the girls stared at him in awe.  I laughed to myself and picked my history book up, turning to leave.  I made it outside without bumping into anyone and continued to make my way off of school grounds.

My house wasn't too far from the school, so I usually walked home with my only other option being to ride home with Evan and his 'posse' that followed him like he was their ruler.  I hummed to myself as I walked and before I knew it I was opening the front door and slipping out of my shoes.  I dropped my bag in the hall and walked to the kitchen.

"Ellie, is that you?" I heard my mom ask as I grabbed a snack.

"Yeah," I answered, hoping she heard me.

"How was school?" she asked me, walking into the kitchen.

"Alright," I said, sitting across from her at the table.  She nodded and stole a chip out of my bag.  I glared at her and she glanced innocently at me while she ate it.  I rolled my eyes and she laughed.

"Do you know if Evan is going to be home early tonight?"

"Nope.  I think I heard that there was going to be a party tonight.  So, he'll probably be there," I told her and she sighed under her breath.

I stood and walked to the cabinet, putting the chips I didn't eat away.

"Why?" I questioned, knowing she never asked about Evan.

"Well..." she trailed off, looking at me nervously.

"Mom..?"  I grinned at her and a deep blush erupted in her cheeks, a quality I had gotten from her.  Someone could look at me in a certain way and I turned into a human tomato.

"Imadeplanstogoonadatetonightand I need someone to watch the kids," she said in a rush and then slowed down.

"All I caught was that you need someone to watch the kids, you're going to have to slow down," I said, laughing.
