it was back in seconds grade when i met her. lillian brewer, the most precious girl i've ever met. angel-like hair, big blue eyes, glowing skin, everything, and it hurt me to see her get bullied everyday -- and by my closest friends of all people.
sam wilkinson, and jack gilinsky have been my best friends since kindergarten, and lillian - well - she was just kinda there. no one paid much attention to her until the fifth grade, when it happened.
during math one day we were learning about fractions or some dumb shit like that and the teacher called on her. i'm assuming it was a level one question because as soon as she got it wrong everyone in the room - including the teacher - busted out laughing, and as the laughs rolled out, the tears started pouring from her eyes.
i felt terrible for laughing but you know how it is; you see your friends doing something so you copy them to be cool.
ever since that day she didn't go by lillian, lilly, or even lil, she went by crybaby. every day from that point on people mocked her in the meanest - yet creative - ways. i mean one kid actually painted her whole locker blue with baby pink letters that spelled out 'crybaby'.
the bullying began to fade out in middle school but per usual jack and sam kept at it. and it wasn't until the bullying got physical that i stepped up to defend her.
i just wished i had stepped up sooner..
