"Mom, I'll be fine besides kasama ko naman si Tito Alex. Nothing wrong is going to happen, I promise." hinawakan ko ang malambot na pisngi ni mommy assuring her everything is going to be fine. She took my hand and put it in hers. Tiningnan lang niya ako for mere seconds and pulled me in for a hug. She was pretty as she was , with abit of wrinkles on her face as she smiles.
"Fine, the flight will be long my dear so bring these packed lunches" mom took my smaller luggage tapos pinasok ang pabaon niya. I don't know whether pwedeng magdala ng pagkain sa loob ng plane, I never rode on a plane; an economic one anyways. I took my phone and my coat sabay ng pagsabit ko ng buhok sa likod ng tenga ko.
For years, I've been trying to tell myself I should be an independent woman and starting today I will mark my words. Mula ng natanggap ako sa IVY LEAGUE kinukulit nalang ako palagi ni mommy na huwag tumuloy. This is IVY people! as much I'd like not to brag about being smart and all, but this is amazing. Bihira makapasok doon besides from my wealthy background, which I doubt alam nila.
"Amelia, my darling look at how beautiful you've grown you took after your father." dad held my face and kissed my cheek, mom sent him a glare and motioned for disapproval.
"Father, if my daughter looked like you she wouldn't be as beautiful as me." sabay cross arms ni mommy. Dad chuckled at her outburst. Hinila ni daddy si mommy and opened his arms wide for a group hug. May sinabi siya about being happy about this day coming, pero hindi na ako nakinig I was stuck in the moment.
When did I ever just get so lucky? pagkatapos ng moment naming kinuha ko na ang mga dadalhin ko sa airport. I'll soon be leaving for Los Angeles and be off to New York for a stopover.
"Mom, can I have a three-day stop over sa New York? You know, sort of like my last vacation before school starts?" Napalingon si mommy na halatang busy sa pagiging hands-on mother niya sa akin at tila siya pa ang parang aalis sa dami ng pinadalang bagahe.
What? yan lang ang narinig kong sabi ni mommy. Naputol kasi ang pag-uusap namin dahil sa isang so called "really important phone call for the business" yeah, my parents work for a huge company HW Corp. Hindi ko alam anong trabaho nila o sino man lang ang boss nila or what kind of business HW does.
All I know is that my parents sure do make a lot of money being able to send me to Cambridge with our personal money. I'm so excited, I'm finally able to live on my own not worrying about making my parents worry sa bawat bagay na gagawin ko.
"Mom and Dad, andito na ang chauffer alis na kami - " naputol ang sasabihin ko ng binara ako ni mommy.
"Your flight is 5 hours from now, asan ka ba pupunta?" *facepalm* totoo nga, I stole a glance from my watch and its only 8 am.
"-mom I'm off to Liandra's house, sleeping disorder remember?" ahhhhhh, mommy slowly took in the words I said. Doon din niya na-alala na may insomnia si Liandra and she will sleep through-out the whole day kasi gising siya all night.
I ran to my parents and gave them one last hug. "Your black and gold card is in your Gucci luggage, ang cash mo nandun na kay Tito Alex mo your food is in your small Michael Korrs backpack and-"
"yes mom, thank you. Love you and you too dad, this much!" I opened my arms so wide and before I took one last glance from my parents ay tumulo ang luha ni mommy. It must be hard for them, I mean having their only child sent off half across the world for BETTER EDUCATION specially it wasn't their decision and by all means not theirs, I mean me.
